Disagree. They've been able to reload not rebuild and it's because, yes, they do draft and develop extremely well. That structure has been in place for much longer than one year. Lidstrom is gone but it's not like this is a completely different franchise otherwise. They do what they do and have done for years. It's bad news for the rest of the Eastern Conference as they'll only get better. The Red Wings have shown us that by selecting a proper coach and choosing the right type of players, a rebuild can be done in a single year.

Yeah now way you can describe what Detroit had to do between last year and this as a rebuild. Sure they had a few guys they needed to replace but that was far from a rebuild IMO.
Seed may mean almost nothing, but it's not like their regular season performances would tell you those teams would have been out quickly. Wins/Losses/Points maybe, but the fancystats said both DET this year and LAK last year were borderline top-tier teams (basically top-5 in the league or better).
WTG, Hamrlik. **** the bed on the eventual GWG and get stapled to the bench for the rest of the game. A hell of a way to go out if that's it.
Too bad we couldn't have traded him to New York, it would have been some sweet revenge, no matter how small.
I agree, his career is kaput.
In summary, the Rags are King Henrik plus a bunch of spare pieces that don't really work too well together. Amazing we lost to them.
Just goes to show haw far away we really are. Ain't no "tinkering" going to get us where we want to be.
Caps-Bruins series would of been a lot more competitive and Bruins fans knew it and were cheering for the Rags to win.
I am so freakin' happy the Rangers lost, only because I hate their huge dependence on Lundqvist. I was planning on quoting myself from earlier on the B's/Rags series thread about them only relying on Lundqvist, and that being the reason they'd lose. I didn't do it now because:
a. Want to be somewhat classy.
b. Don't want to get flamed (although no one argued with me when I initially said what I did)
c. I have a feeling it'd anger the mods, as it would shift the discussion (most likely).
The real issue here is whether Jagr and Iginla can trade teams so that I can root for one without some degree of self-loathing? Go ...sharks? I don't even know anymore....
