Our defense problems

2 million in cap space *IF* the cap remains the same.

I think Bergevin needs to keep cleaning up what needs to be cleaned up. He started off well trading away Bourque and Moen. As I said earlier, he should actively pursue any possible deal involving Desharnais/Gilbert/Emelin/Prust.

If moving one or two of these guys can allow you to sign a Erhoff/Sekera/Martin/Staal for next season, it's worth it.

Nope we are missing offense as much as defense. While Gorges would solidify our defense we would still have problem scoring goals.

Offensively speaking we are 22nd (2.41 goals scored by games played). Defensively speaking we are 14th (2.59 goals allowed by games played). In both case this is bad. But the offense is worse.

Last year we finished 21st (2.55) in offense and 8th (2.45) in defense. What killed us in playoffs is our inability to score goals against Lundqvist and the size of our players. Against NYR we won all games where we scored 3 goals. Problem is we scored 3 goals 2 times only in 6 games (1 time only in regular time). NYR scored 3+ goals 4 times in the serie.

Did you even read my post or did you stop after the 1st sentence?

Gorges would allow us to split Markov and Subban at ES, which would mean we'd have a top pairing guy out there for ~45 minutes. That's a huge boost both offensively, having an elite PMD on the ice for virtually the whole game would increase the offence.

At his best, I'd say so.

He hasn't been very good as of late, though. Became the Rangers' whipping boy more than anything. I still believe he'd be a solid addition as a #3. When at the level he can, he's a great shutdown defenseman with a good first pass.
