The 67's and Landsdowne were a perfect match then Harold and Earl created the team.

Landsdowne was the place for sports and entertainment.

As with everything else times have changed. The people that lived in the Glebe enjoyed the Exhibition. Heck, a lot of them made money from it.

The bands that were brought it were top flight and the roughriders were winning and competitive.

Unfortunately, now the new people are noise adverse and don't want any traffic on their streets.
People have moved out of Ottawa.

Would the team do well if it was moved to another location downtown? I don't think so. The problem is that the city is not going to build a new arena for the 67's in any other location.

At this time the only location that would work is either OSEG or cohabitate with the Sens.

Cohabitating may not be that bad a thing. It just means that there would have to be an agreement that the Fronts play on Friday nights with games on Sat and Sunday.

That would work if people remember Earl was able to work a deal with the Sens for a special admission where people could get tickets to both games in a package.

It will be interesting to see what the environmentalists think about the high rises along the canal.

You really cannot compare Ottawa to Kingston or London.

Both are the only game in town.

nothing was stated about players already playing.

Going to make things interesting for a few teams I am sure.

Some good observations...

For the record, I wasn't comparing Ottawa to London or Kingston...
I was more comparing Kingston and London. You are right both are the only game in town...

I was trying to say that both have good facilities in similar locations in their cities, in similar size markets.
One has been successful drawing fans, the other hasn't...
Lots of other factors affecting their ability to draw fan base.

In the 2019-20 playoffs, the 67s drew big crowds of 6000+ again, at the new Lansdowne redevelopment location. That is pretty recent.
I am just saying it is possible again at that site, if other factors are taken care of.

Heck, on one of the recent Friday night games this year, 67s drew 5000+ !

2$ beer nights have also been successful :)

I don't think I've ever been less disappointed by the 67's being swept. They litterally were in every game and could easily have won three. They also had wrotten puck luck. Looking forward to next year.
Feel the same way

A Friday night with 5000+ fans in Ottawa? Who’d have thought? Maybe they should consider Friday nights……………………………………

Considering our huge losses of key players from the precious three teams, I’d call this a successful season.

As likely the youngest team in the league, we are only graduating Alex Johnston and Adam Varga up front, and likely Will Cranley in nets. Good luck to all these good guys in their future endeavours.

The top three returning forwards (Beck, Tolnai and Varga) from the previous season totalled 51 points combined. Excluding Belanger who was traded, the four returning D (Matier, Costantini, Sawyer and Gill-Shane) totalled 23 points the previous season.

Good season, thanks for the entertainment and I look forward to a contending team next year.

Part of linking it with a downtown arena isn’t for the 67’s to play in the NHL arena. It is about linking funding for that NHL Arena with them also building a downtown area Rink for the 67’s that “may” also include a multi pad facility.

Another option could be in the south end with all the development going on with the Casino around Albion. Extensions for the Monorail as well.

To me, the key is Friday night games. They need to return to that to have any sort of success. We are the ONLY team in the OHL that plays Saturday afternoon games. It is rather pathetic.

Mississauga has their own issues. We need to remember that Mississauga NEVER had attendance regardless of success on ice. Ottawa sold out the Civic Centre and had average nightly attendance between 7000-10000 between the time Hunt took over the team up until they relocated to Kanata for the Lansdowne Park redevelopment. It is not like the 67’s NEVER had the attendance. They’ve demonstrated the ability to fill 7000+ seats continually for many years.

I’ve had conversations with Jeff personally and the issue is quite simple. The 67’s fans didn’t take the opportunity to enjoy the amenities pre and post game in the same way as the Red Blacks. All they did was occupy parking which was killing the other outlets on Friday Home nights. They had no choice but to shift them away from evening games and move them to weekend afternoons. Even weeknights weren’t much of an option from a parking management situation with respect to the negative effects for the other outlets. This is right from the horses mouth.

So, as long as the 67’s are located at Lansdowne, they are screwed. The 67’s management has done nothing to try to promote cross marketing for the 67’s and the other outlets. In fact, they shifted to family only which doesn’t have the disposable income to spend on restaurants every hockey game. Maybe they buy a hotdog or ice cream at the game but they aren’t going to Joey’s or Milestones pre or post game. They’ve just mitigated the risk of negative effects for the other outlets.

Bussing in and out of Lansdowne in the middle of winter isn’t ideal either. This is why I think something along one of the Light Rail routes makes sense.

Another option would simply be to develop a Junior Rink in Kanata on the current Canadian Tire Place grounds. Maybe chopping the top half off would be possible for a 8000 seat rink. Then when the Sens leave for downtown, Kanata has the 67’s to replace the Sens. It’s not like the 67’s didn’t do well when they were in Kanata. I think the crowds there were better than they’ve been since the return to Lansdowne. They can develop a new fan base out there.

Loads of potential options but the one option that really doesn’t work at all is Lansdowne. That experiment has been done and the new landscape doesn’t support the 67’s at all.
There were nights at Scotiabank where my wife and I counted the number of fans watching the 67's. One night there were 172 on the other side of the rink... To say the attendance at Kanata was good is laughable.

OSEG missed an opportunity when they designed Lansdowne. They should have designed the area as an Entertainment district. Restaurants, concert bowl, small stage for plays. I would go down there for that, but I wouldn't venture down to buy furniture or a car or go see a dentist.

As well if you read the plan for redevelopment they talk about an event centre. Not much about an arena...

Also, who designs underground parking where you have to go outside to get to most of the businesses. i am surprised that they didn't get dinged for lack of accessibility for those with mobility issues.

Kingston screwed up when they moved to form the M Centre. No, I am not saying that the M Center was the be all, but the property location was perfect. and it was easily accessed from 4 directions with busses avail. There was loads of parking for people that attended games. and the racetrack would have been the perfect foundation as it is on the rock.

However, people wanted to make money, and the businesses complained that the location was not driving downtown business.

Then they built the new arena and said that people would drive to it and that it was a great location. Nope, people freeze their assets off walking from the parked cars. They only want to get home so there is not the walk-in business that stores thought they would get.
In a way, just like Lansdowne has become for Ottawa.

A good location in Ottawa for an arena complex would be near the baseball stadium.

A lot of people on the draft thread seem to think Ottawa will take Mews a D man at seven. I think they need to go forward ideally center if equal talent. OMG did make a good point that we could use a puck moving D and I agree. However as we plan to contend the next few years there is a greater likelyhood a forward can have an immediate impact on our third line imo.

Speaking of puck moving D I think we have him in Sirman. He really impressed me against North Bay with his exits/first pass and jumping up in the play. However he needs to make one big change...get a new hockey stick supplier.
