Seems to me that Ottawa is just going to treat the 23+6 taxi squad setup as just being able to carry a 29 man roster and rotate guys in and out of the lineup.

They are also stockpiling guys who can play both wing and centre. Gives them plenty of lineup flexibility.

Yup, they might look like geniuses if COVID starts striking NHL teams like Germany got hit at the WJC.

I think the point is that the Sens already added so many players this off-season, and they keep adding more. Dadonov, Galchenyuk, Stepan, Paquette, Gudbranson, Zub, Josh Brown, and the list goes on. Plus potential rookies. The Sens could literally ice two teams.

The Sens are doing their rebuild right IMO. The Sabres rushed theirs and gave players who weren’t ready for the NHL spots. That and they traded their stockpile of picks. But this thread is about the Sens being sneaky smart.

"Anders Nilsson is continuing to deal with symptoms from a concussion he suffered back in December.

“Right now, it’s still status-quo. He has good days and bad days. It’s still headache related and neck and eyes related and we’re going to wait to see him in Ottawa and see how he is,” Senators goaltending coach Pierre Groulx said. “When he was hurt, he was playing outstanding hockey. It’s disappointing because (Nilsson) is such a great guy. You don’t want to see that happen but it’s an injury where you have to think of the health first. We’ll see what happens when he comes into Ottawa.” Back in September, the Senators believed that Nilsson would be ready for the start of the 2020-21 campaign and while that might still be possible, nothing is certain. Him experiencing symptoms nearly a year later is obviously concerning, but concussions don't come with a timetable."

Coburn is good for 5-9 minutes per night and special teams. Still has a wicked shot but he lost time to the kids.

Honestly...if a player is on LTIR for 3 f***ing yrs like Gaborik...at some pt the league should force him to see a NHL assigned doctor...if that doc says he'll never play again he should either have to retire or he becomes dead cap space and you cant LTIR him
