Our bottom-six looks so much better now. Praying for health.
Improved their depth and goaltending, doubt they’ll face the amount of injuries from last year. They’ll be better this yearWell done Sens. Move on from Debrincat and get Tarasenko for less on the cap. And they are a lot heavier in that spot.
They'll probably wait to see what happens with Batherson and the investigation findings firstSooooo Sens have to trade someone now?
No-brainer for the Sens. Why the heck not give him a try for 1 year?
Tarasenko changing agents just to pull down this dud of a contract is… interesting. Not that Larry Brooks necessarily knows what he’s talking about, but he reported that Tarasenko rejected a deal in the $5.5M-$6M range and was mad enough about it to fire his agent. Now he’s on a smaller deal that gives him no security if his decline and injury issues continue. How we got from there to here is a story that will hopefully be told someday.
I mean putting up some points but horrible defensively
Ottawa has a core of Stutzle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Pinto, Norris upfront, and Chabot, Chychrun, Sanderson on defense (that backend is absolutely stacked). They are a young up and coming team that has the main pieces needed to become a contender. Why would they not supplement that? They don’t need to tank when they have young stars at critical positions.Korpisalo, Tarasenko, Giroux, Chychrun, Kubalik. And before that, DeBrincat played the role of Tarasenko. Let’s face it, Tarasenko doesn’t want to be there. It’s been reported that he wanted to play for other teams that didn’t have the money for him, and he fired his agent this summer.
I think if you don’t have the pieces in-house with your rebuild to make the playoffs, you shouldn’t be bringing in UFA’s or traded guys with big contracts to get you barely over the playoff hump. It hurts the long-term viability of the team’s contention. It’s best to accept where you are and take the extra few years to rebuild.
And don’t get me wrong, Chychrun is young and can be part of Ottawa’s core, but you balance that with he’s getting a huge pay raise once the team has a true chance to win anything, so I’m not sure the team gains the effects of his great contract.
All of this is to say I think they’ve tried to bandaid a few too many positions around the edges of their roster before they had an organically playoff caliber roster, and it’s part of why I think Buffalo is closer than Ottawa. Buffalo didn’t get impatient. I think Ottawa’s impatience will cost them, but we’ll see.
So is the other team. It's gonna be gud hockey. Mix it up and bring back the 80sOttawa is gonna put the puck in the net
You don't like Korpisalo? He's better than a lot of 'tenders they've had! Adding Tarasenko with Kubalik to go with BTkachuk,Norris,Batherson,Pinto,Stutzle and Giroux makes a pretty darn good top 8 Forward group! And let's not forget Formenton...I'd say that's a formidable unit that could really cause serious damage...add MJoseph,RGreig, with Ostapchuk,Boucher and Jarventie waiting in the "wings"! The best Defense is a great Offense I sayIt’ll get them closer to the playoffs. I still don’t like their goaltending and think their team has too many parts inorganically thrown together, but we’ll see. The Atlantic division is going to have 6 teams that can easily make or miss the playoffs.
Smart too by the Sens, will be nice trade bait at the deadline.
Don’t supplement it with pieces that aren’t long-term solutions, unless you already have a team to make the playoffs on its own. You end up hamstringing your cap with the middle tier players that no smart team wants. You want stars on big contracts or young players before you have to pay them. UFA’s and trade acquisitions that barely move the needle for your team are how you hurt a rebuild.Ottawa has a core of Stutzle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Pinto, Norris upfront, and Chabot, Chychrun, Sanderson on defense (that backend is absolutely stacked). The only bad thing about this signing is the full nmc.
Might make it impossible to get good value out of him at the trade deadline if the Sens are far out of a playoff spot.
Dunno about these guys but all I would want is the agent to bring me the offers and then let me give a thumbs up or down on it. Granted that may be what Tarasenko was doing and is why he fired the guy. I get giving him negotiating power but once you hit a certain threshold I'd want it brought to me ( and in his case probably anything around 5 mil and up ).No-brainer for the Sens. Why the heck not give him a try for 1 year?

Ya! You know, that Sens team with new seasoned ownership and a young core of 30-40 goal scorers signed long term who are 23 or younger....Well to be fair, he just jumped aboard a sunk ship....
