Just curious as to which Bernier goal you considered stoppable. Joey's?
The Gusev goal that beat him blocker side, either inside the arm or just to the outside.

Mickey Redmond seemed to think it went off a defenseman, but Mickey Redmond also thinks a game between two non-playoff teams is a fun thing to be a part of.

Honestly, I'm not even sure he gets 10. He's pretty much a perennial 70ish point scorer with 1 or 2 anomalous years.

Agreed. I think if he goes longer than a year, he's getting like 9 mil for like 5 years. I honestly think he's losing his shot, as well, and I'm not sure it was "great" to begin with. I'd give him like 10 or something like that on a single year deal with the intention of flipping him as a rental to someone if he didn't see the offer he wanted, but yeah, I think his market is going to be worse than what we thought we were going to have to sign him for. I could easily see him capped out at 9 million.

Rick Tocchet and John MacLean are both joke coaches.

These are the kind of guys you hire as interim coaches late in the year just so you can tank the rest of the season away.

Oh, wait............

Like when the Panthers and Leafs hired Peter Horachek as an interim head coach in back to back years.

Just for fun I checked how the Devils have done since December 14. I think that was the first game Hall did not play, but I am not sure. Since that time the Devils have more points than Carolina, Washington, and the Islanders. Big improvement here since he stopped playing for the Devils.

On the other hand, out West the Yotes only have more points than the Sharks and Kings.

There are other reasons for Arizona falling apart (their goalies and crappy coaching), just like there are other reasons for our improved play (Blackwood, coaching change). But man Shero might be proven right not going beyond five years if nobody gives Hall max term this offseason.

Huge point for the Isles last night even though they lost in OT.

But once again the importance of goal tending. That’s the biggest difference between this year and last for them. Lehner was top tier last season. What they’ve got now is mediocre to the point that they may not even squeak into the playoffs.

When you get to a certain level of competition - actually in any close NHL game - a save here or there is the difference between winning and losing. It can’t be emphasized enough.

Yeah we dodged a bullet with Hall. Wish him the best but I'm guessing he has 3-4 more years of good play left before the big decline. He's not worth 10+ over 8 years. Didn't fit out timeline at all.

Also don't think he stays wtih Arizona. Guessing Calgary, Colorado, or a 1-2 year deal with some powerhouse e.g. Tampa(If they could squeeze him in) where he can almost bank on the playoffs and a cup.

He's saying all the things we've heard hear in NJ(it's much nicer than I thought, young team, blah blah blah, but I want to win) to Arizona fans recently and having that fanbase think he's signing there.

The guy wants to win and can't blame him, but he's just not a difference maker like the other top guys in the league who are getting paid the big bucks.

I know I'll catch shit for this, but I'd sign Hall if he was willing to come back. He's an amazing hockey player, even if he was shitty for us this year.

The problem is you'd have to overpay to get him. If he's giving anyone a discount it's an already very good team on a two year deal type of thing. He will probably have his choice of five year contract landing spots with solid if not tip top dollar. NJ would probably have to offer something more than that most likely to have a chance. I'd be surprised if Hall has any sentimental connection to NJ or the franchise.

yeah, I mean I wouldn't overpay for him or anything. 5 x 10 or 6 x 9, but I'm sure you're right, he won't come to us for that.

Arizona is the only one that really matters. Vancouver isn't going to fall out of the playoffs, that pick will be around 19-23 for sure.

I can't see the Canucks falling out of the playoff race either, but will still root like hell for them to finish in the 2nd WC spot.

Good night overall last night for the Devils pick from Arizona, as they Yotes lost and Flames, Canucks, Preds and Wild all picked up two points while the Jets got a point against Washington. Only downside was the Blackhawks losing by a goal to the Blues in regulation.

The Coyotes pick is now 9th based on point percentage, as Buffalo has surpassed them (.532 vs. .530 point %).

Coyotes are tied with Nashville at 70 points for the 2WC spot but have played a whopping 4 more games, which is crazy for this time of year.

I'd be absolutely stunned if he did come back for any amount.

I sure wouldn't turn him away if that is the deal he accepts but the likelihood of that happening is equal to that of Louis Domingue winning the Vezina.

I've brought it up, but it's short term for me, probably an oversized one year deal if his market is soft, and I'm likely flipping him again. He gets to be on himself to improve his market, would get a chance to play for a cup even we trade him.

I'm basically buying a pick + prospect via Hall

Goals against review for tonight

Sabres vs Avalanche: 3 goals against Hutton, no chance on any. 2 goals against Francouz, no chance on either.

Oilers vs Golden Knights: 3 goals against Koskinen, 2 stoppable. Fleury gets the shutout.

Penguins vs Kings: 2 goals against Jarry, no chance on either. 1 goal against Petersen, no chance.

So that's 11 goals scored on goalies, 2 are stoppable. That's 18% of the goals scored were stoppable. Combined save percentages were .941%.

Softy of the night is this Shea Theodore goal on Mikko Koskinen

It's a one timer, but it's also from the point, he's in position for it, there really isn't enough of a screen to excuse this one and it absolutely did not deflect.

I assume Columbus has the cap space for Hall if a team like Colorado, Boston or the NYI can’t make his salary fit. Hall’s getting a long term deal somewhere other than here. It will probably be with a bubble team because they’re more likely have the cap space.

I know there’s rumors about Calgary but that may be more of a fan thing. The Jets will have cap space though they have a much bigger need at defense. Hall did say he loved how much easier travel is for an eastern team after being in Edmonton. I can’t see Montreal after how the Oilers beat reporters talked shit about him. (I realize Montreal isn’t even a bubble team but going after Hall is something they might do.)
