He's always been elite at playmaking but had underwhelming totals after 2010-11. Still this is quite shocking. That he's above Drai and McDavid at ES in assists. If he learned to score goals maybe he wouldn't be a one trick pony.

How many are secondary tho

10 first and 8 secondary 5v5. 1 first and 4 secondary on PP where he is set up to shoot not create. He is not in a position to Get assist on the PP. Mostly rebounds or if Carlson shoots after passing between them around the Blue line.

So 32 primary points for Ovi. McDavid has 34 while Drai has 38.

Ovechkin is a great passer, it's just when your shot so good that you win 9 Rockets (and counting), that you're needed to put the puck in the net. Some posters in HF have actually criticized him for having so few assists even while he is winning Rockets.

So can we say the same thing about noted playmakers?

This whole thing undermines whatever drai and McDavid and even players like fox/makar are doing point wise. It is easier to score now and no fox isn't better than prime Erik Karlsson for example even though he's pacing for more..

Marginally I guess. Overall offensive production trumps both. Crosby has shown he can be an elite playmaker and an elite goalscorer.

So has Ovi. Not only this season but at the start of his career. But not getting into all that with the legendary Daver.

He's also leading in ESG and ESP but of course no one is mentioning that. It's funny because when OV was scoring 20-30% of his goals on the PP, he was a PP specialist. So what is Drai who is scoring more than 50% of his goals on the PP?

Based on what? He never finished Top 5 in assists in a season in his career.

That being said, at his peak, he was more of a one-man show who created scoring chances that lead to goals by others as opposed to a traditional setup man.

He has never been a "playmaking" winger in the traditional sense saying he could have been an elite playmaker, one of the best in the league, is a stretch.

It is a lot easier to say Crosby could have been a Top 3 goalscorer every year if he wasn't so relied on to generate offense from his line.

I don't really get the point of threads with titles like this....it isn't 2010 anymore who is disrespecting what Ovi is doing this year so much to feel the need to project like this?
