But a QO is just that, an offer. All Kase's agent has to do is accept and you have offer, acceptance and consideration, which from my 1L contracts course, is a completed contract. Did Sweeney and his agent agree that he will reject the offer and negotiate at something lower just to retain his rights? I just don't like this at all.

Very surprised they're bringing Kase back. If they're penciling him in for 3RW and calling it a day I don't like it at all. If they're taking a calculated risk on him as a depth piece I can see the logic. Worst case you put him on LTIR if he can't play again. I'd prefer that they let him become a UFA and sign him for league minimum if that was the plan though. Every dollar counts at the deadline as we all know.

I'd much prefer they make a play for Garland or try to sign Armia for that spot. If they plan to use Kase in the spot and he gets injured off the bat again, what is the backup plan? Hope one of Studnicka, Steen, Senyshyn or Froden can stick there? I don't love the thought of that.

yup. usually when you want to sign a guy to a lower figure, they don't qualify the player and work toward that lower number. strange move. no likey.

The song, however, wasn't written by Jim Henson and crew. It was composed by Piero Umiliani, and first heard in a 1968 Italian film that some consider to be softcore pornography, "Sweden: Heaven and Hell." The song plays over a scene where buxom Swedish ladies head for the sauna. The clip actually doesn't show any nudity -- even in the sauna the women are towel-wrapped -- so you can catch the song's introduction below.\

No nudity?

Then why would I want to watch it? ;)

Good post. Giving Kase a qualifying offer seems unwarranted but if it's a good will gesture to a guy who's had a rough time of things, with no further expectation than that he will be a depth bottom-6 forward if healthy, then I can live with it. It's too much money for that role, but it's not crippling. Kase is good enough to fill a 3rd/4th line position, I don't doubt that, not yet anyway. And if his head still isn't right, or takes another hit, then it's easy enough to LTIR him again.

But it's that state of his health that means, as you said, it's vital that Kase isn't seen as 'the' solution to 3RW. Sweeney has to go out and find a Garland etc. who'll be the primary occupier of that spot (or make it Smith if the new guy jumps on the 2nd line), with Kase just as extra depth who can step in/up as needed. To do otherwise would be ridiculous.

I like Kase's chances of becoming a quality NHL player over Ritchie...

I would rather neither on the team. But I’d put my money on the guy who has averaged 11-12 goals a year having a solid career over the guy who has had 4-5 concussions and played 9 out of possible 80-90 or so games for the bruins

Unlike us internet based general managers, Sweeney has talked to the coaching staff, scouts, and medical staff. I'm guessing they are all on the same page in order for a qualifying offer to be made. If the opinion of all is that he can make a meaningful contribution next year, I welcome him back with open arms.

I’m actually ok with this knowing it’s a 2 way deal and they can bury him in the AHL for the cap savings if necessary. Actually turns out to be good work by DS if cap friendly is accurate

And if they think that they all need to be replaced.

You can only bury 1.075 million whether it's one way or two way. He would still count as almost 1.6 million on the cap if he accepted the QO and was sent down.

Here is my off the wall guess why Kase is going to be receiving a QO.

Is Kase's QO a case of banking Rask's money in advance?

Assuming Rask is cleared to play in mid Jan. or early Feb. I would think that he would want at least $3 million to play.

If as expected Kase is injured again, he will be back on the LTIR and his money could be used for Rask.

If he stays healthy and contributes, then the Bruins will have to make a move when Tuukka comes back.
