This question is inspired by someone who mentioned that Dupuis would be a nice option for Canada's 3rd line. Still not sure if they were serious, but I think it merits discussion. I am curious how Dupuis' #'s stack up against other people, don't have time to research it at the moment.

Possible Olympians:

Canada:

-Crosby
-Iginla
-Kunitz
-Neal
-Dupuis (makes sense, PK, + Crosby factor)

-Letang

-Fleury (we know the answer, but will include to be nice)

US:

-Sutter (who knows?)
-Vitale (I don't want to be banned for not including him)

-Orpik
-Martin

Russia:

-Malkin

Czech Republic:

-Vokoun

Finland:

-Jokinen

Sweden:

-Murray

Brunei:

-Adams (Bylsma named honorary player coach, they are a 2 person team)

This is a rather long list, even with the few joke people.

There is absolutely no way Dupuis will even get a consideration. There are many players who are speedy, good PK-players and good along the boards, but are way more skilled. Iginla will not be on the team. It is pretty obvious that he lost a step and it would be an even bigger problem on the europen ice than it already is on the NHL ice.

I am 100% sure Kunitz is not going, Dupuis has 1-3 out of 100 chance I think depending how this playoffs go. Iginla chance is higher, but not likely either (mostly due to name recognition). Neal is probably between the Dupuis and Iginla on odds unless he seriously improves his game. Crosby is lock as long as he is healthy. Letang has very high chance as long as he does not do some really stupid things meanwhile.

I seriously hope USA has enough centers to avoid taking Sutter as one. Martin is lock unless his game drops again. Orpik needs very good showing in this playoff and start of next season to have reasonable chance.

Malkin is lock.

Vokoun is lock too, not sure how much will he get to play. Come to think of it, who are his competitors for starter as I am drawing blank currently?

Jokinen is high chance to make it.

I would be seriously surprised to see Murray for Sweden especially on bigger ice. Personally I just do not see it happening without several injuries.

If the Pens make it to the SCF Bylsma is almost a guarantee to be the coach of USA. As it stands now, from what I've heard, it's either him or Torts.

The only true "locks" to make teams are Crosby and Malkin
Very strong possibilities are Martin, Letang, Iggy.
moderate possibilities are Neal, Dupius, Kunitz, Orpik
May still get a look- Fleury

Crosby, Letang and Malkin are all locks and I think Martin's pretty much a lock provided he doesn't complete wet the bed next year. I'm pretty sure Vokoun will be one of the 3 Czech Goalies and I think there is a good chance that Jokinen goes as he's so versatile. If Orpik plays well for the playoffs and the start of next year then he'll definitely be in the conversation and could make it as basically a defensive/PK specialist who gets a few ES minutes here and there. I agree with Atren that it's unlikely the Swedes take Murray on big ice and they've got a log of good young dmen to choose from. I see Iggy possibly making it in a 4th line/PP role but I'm not sure how much he's able to contribute at ES at the Olympic anymore. Neal I don't think makes it as while he's an excellent PP guy there is going to be so much competition there and the guys he'll be competing against will be better ES players. Kunitz and Dupuis have a very small chance of making it, but if either one of them starts the season on a tear next to Sid then they might just be in luck.

Good thread.

I think Dupuis would be very useful player for Team Canada, but I doubt he will get a consideration. Neal & Iginla shouldn´t be there, Kunitz is borderline but I think Dupuis is better fit there.

Just to clarify things - Vokoun won´t play for CZE, his great national career is already finished (his own decision).

Sid, Malkin, Letang, and Vokoun are already guaranteed spots as far as I'm concerned. I think Iggy's international days are pretty much done. Don't see Kunitz getting a look, regardless of how he did this season or how well he may do next season. Jokinen might have a good chance of making Finland if he's given sufficient playing time with us next season, although I do find it odd he wasn't taken in 2010.

Neal, Orpik, Martin, and Murray all still have chances to make their respective teams in my opinion, but they'll all need to have excellent starts to next season in order to do so.

As for Fleury, well he may have played himself out of consideration after this most recent playoff meltdown, but considering how low the quality of goaltending is for Canada at the moment I still wouldn't be surprised if he's given a spot.

Once more. Vokoun announced the end of his national career just a two months ago. He would be no.1 goalie for the Czechs but it´s Pavelec´s job right now.

No Chance IMO. Bergeron has that role

Teddy Blueger for Latvia maybe?

I'd be shocked if they took Blueger, I think he'd have to come out of the gate at over a PPG and the fact that he still has a boy's frame is going to count against him.

Haha, Kunitz and Dupuis? I was going to make a joke about them having to be on the team to keep the Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis line together but I see the OP actually put them in as serious contenders. Not a chance for either of them.

Really, the only Penguins that stand a good chance are Crosby (lock and either captain or alternate if healthy obviously), Iginla (likely won't be a Penguin at time though and may be too old/not performing well enough) and Letang (not a lock but stands very good chance)

Sid, Malkin, Letang, Vokoun pretty well guaranteed as Birdman said.

The rest are pretty iffy. I'd say Orpik and Martin have the best shot for Team USA but not locks by any means. Vitale a lock for Team USA Director of Player Motivation. Most of our guys will not play because they're Canadian, eh? Too much competition for slots.

lol Its funny how no one reads all the posts above.
Crosby, Malkin yes.
Letang, Martin probably.
Voukun has retired from international play.
Jussi maybe.
Fleury who knows. Last time it was Luongo, Ward, Fluery right? Who would thier top 3 be now?

Cant see Dupuis and Kunitz winning spots on a canadian roster.
Crosby, Tavares, Stamkos, Toews, Getzlaf, Perry, Thorton, E Staal, M. Richards, Bergeron Thats 10 players already not counting some who were on the last team (Marleau, Heatley).
I think it'd be awesome to see a Tavares Crosby Stamkos line. lol Even if for just a game.
(Even better would be to see Toews and Sid on a line. Almost the whole team is made of centers and I would think Getzlaf and Thorton if there would stay at center.)
EDIT: Forgot Nash too.

In terms of Team Canada.

Crosby, Letang are locks.

I doubt Dupuis even gets a sniff.
While Dupuis would be a great PK'ing addition.
Theres just too many stars that kill penalties already.
Giroux, Bergeron, Toews to name a few.

Kunitz and Neal and Fleury may get sniffs at the roster/invited to camp but i don't know if they make the final roster.

Canadian goalies:

Price
Luongo
Smith
Dubnyk
Fleury
Crawford
Reimer
Holtby
Brodeur?

I believe both Shero and Bylsma are associated with team USA. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Bylsma is the head coach.
