No way we keep 12mil invested in Maata and Seabrook two slow guys right? Jut so against Stan's MO.

This could be setting up for a Seabrook deal down the line (as in next 12 months).

Not saying it is definitely going to happen but he’ll have made 38.5M of the 55M on his contract after his 4M bonus July 1st. He’d be playing for 1M next year. He could just take the 9.62M average of the last 4 years and retire. He’ll be making about 4.5M per season in real money from here on out.

Also, I could definitely see him and Gus being a great pairing for you guys. He was pretty dynamite with Schultz last year who is less of a skater than Gus.

The Maatta Schultz pairing in the playoffs didn’t have a single ES goal against them if I recall correctly.

Thats good info thanks! The problem is we likely wont be able to afford Gus now coz Maatta's 4m is pretty significant.

This is pretty meh where we stand today. I also don’t really see how this makes it so certain they’re going F with the 3rd overall pick.

A. They’re still going to take the BPA
B. Matta isn’t even a top-pairing D, let alone a #1, even if you went by a Draft For Need philosophy.

Either do I.

Getting that extra 680K to spend in 23 and 24 looks pretty interesting if I’m interpreting that correctly.

Yeah the actual contract specifics change things a lot. Its still a risk, but one that im not as opposed to taking anymore given our d situation. Lets see how it turns out.

no ****, well **** it, I am okay now lol....this contract won't kill us period.
Stan was definitely ahead of the curve here. Yeah kahun was the sacrificial lamb but not a huge loss IMO. It's a one year tryout to prove he's back to top 4 D or it's a buyout that's pennies against our cap and won't affect our ability to extend strome and debrincat

Whereas someone like dehaan would and there would be no workaround his salary and cap hit if he comes here and lays a turd

A couple here were joking about waiting to see what BWC thinks about this deal but I'm actually interested to see what @JaegerDice thinks cause of Maata's raw analytical rumbers.

I will just say this - I was told some info from someone I trust within the organization yesterday - this is part of what I was told would happen (though no specific name on what defensemen they were trying to acquire), but I am 100% in FIRM belief we are picking Turcotte next week. That was stated as well, Hawks have made up their mind and want the two-way C... This is coming from a Byram supporter, Hawks are going Turcotte...I will stand by it despite my 55-45% want of Byram....

Which should reassure the fact that they like the young D they already have... but hey... Boqvist and Beaudin suck right?

Dude is a 3rd liner. I like Kahun. I love his speed, but he is definitely replaceable.
It's the same thing I said about when people were up in arms about giving hinostroza to Arizona like he's some breakout top liner in the making. He's a .5 PPG player, went to Arizona did essentially the same production output with them. He's not good or smart enough to be a permanent top 6 contributor.

Kahun and him were carbon copies. Smaller, good speed, good forecheck, plus hands, not a great shot, doesn't carry play by themselves. Kubalik probably steps in and mirrors his production right away
