If Chia followed the RFA market that year, Draisaitl would be making 6.5-7.5 per year, more inline with a comparable guy at a comparable age.

Who's that you ask?

David Pastrnak.

You wouldn’t pay 1.834 mil for the two extra years?

Chia doesn't need to be thanked for anything but the environment our defense can develop in is finally at a satisfactory place where we can yield results unlike before.

It wouldn't matter who drafted Bear or who drafted Nurse if these guys were still being catapulted into top pairing minutes by their 2nd pro year with zero help.

Why do people not factor in that Pasta signed for 6 years and Drai signed for 8?

In year 7 and 8, Drai will still be at 8.5 when Pasta is at a 13+ most likely

That wasn't what I was saying.

I'd imagine we would have been able to negotiate Drai down from 8.5 to something like 7 or 7.5 AAV over the 8 years.

It just seemed to me the negotiation went on for like a week after the season ended and then Chia was like "8.5? We'll take it, I was prepared to offer you 9."

No agent is going to let their client sign an eight year contract where they're being paid at their market value of year one.

There has to be an overpayment early if you want it to be a bargain later.

Last time the team won 14 out of their first 23 games was 14-6-3 in 1981-82. Only times the team got 14 wins in fewer games were the 1983-84 (14-2-1), 1984-85 (14-3-3), 1985-86 (14-4-2) and 2001-02 (14-5-2-1) seasons.

Updating. Fewer games to reach 16 wins: 16-6-3 in 1981-82, 16-3-1 in 1983-84, 16-3-3 in 1984-85 and 16-4-3 in 1985-86.

You weren't even in the negotiation room so this is all hypothetical/bs/complaining for no good reason tbh

And Drai didn't sign a deal until September IIRC so it dragged on a for a bit

Drai is locked up for a long time at 8.5M, why do people gonna find a way to bitch about it LOL

And when people do sign 8 year deals for above market they are usually overpaid the first couple years and then steals for the last few.

Drai was market value for the first few years and will be an absolute steal from here on out

Chia can go suck a big one. He turned the last 3 out of 4 years into a barren desolate wasteland and little hope with his mad scientist thinking. Put us up against the cap when he left. Holland has done more in his 6 months than Chia managed to destroy in 4 years.
Man, is that saying something or what
