What really impressed me about Yakimov last night was that he drew a couple penalties and used his long reach to make good defensive plays.

I like how everyone has differing opinions on how everyone played. One may think that one player was "unimpressive" and another might thing he played a great game.

Interesting to see how we all see the game differently.

I think it's just different standards. For Nikitin for instance, i was worried he would be a 4. 5 million dollar boat anchor or maybe a power play specialist. I was very pleased to see that he was a damn fine dman in all situations and my praise can make it sound like he is a legit top pairing Dman.

I really hope this version of RNH sticks around when the games start to count. Very fun to watch him assert himself a little bit more. Is it me or is he just whistling his shots this year? Release looks fantastic.

That's another reason not to take these games to seriously. You see a guy good on one shift, where he's probably up against guys who will never play in this league, and you think he's a superstar. Next game he's up against a superstar and somebody else see's him get destroyed, totally different impressions. Preseason is meaningless, hooray we won boo we lost neither tell us how the team is going to play once the season starts.

I didnt watch the game and I know that looking at the boxscore isnt probably the best way of doing things but:

Winnipeg outshot Edmonton 28-17. Edmonton was at home. Edmontons roster was much better than Winnipegs.

Seems to me that Edmonton was just lucky and people are happy because they won. Last year I thought Edmonton was constantly outworked and outplayed nearly every game.

I know its just a preseason game but if I was looking at the rosters, I would of thought that Edmonton would of dominated this game.

Am I wrong?

You make room for a guy like Nurse.

He's defintely one of our top 6 d-men, so play him and develop him at the NHL level even if means Klefbom starts in OKC.

I thought Nurse was pretty week defensively last night. Giveaways and uncertainty with the puck. Had some flashes in the offensive zone though.

Send him back please. He needs a year in junior plus another in the AHL before cracking an NHL lineup. I would send him to the AHL this year if I could.

As others have said, Nuge just looks much stronger, faster, and has his confidence and swagger back. I'm very much looking forward to this breakout season from RNH.

For their roster, Winnipeg played quite well. They vastly outplayed the Oilers in the 2nd period. They got a few good young players so they seem to be improved. Goaltending is a big issue though.

You would not be wrong...if this were a regular season game and the rosters were the same.

It shouldn't need to be pointed out to you that when in preseason, the win/loss records don't mean much at all.

Our 3/4 line and prospects were playing a bunch in the 3rd and on the pp after we were in the lead. If it was a reg season game we would of kept going.

As great as he has been we actually have the D depth to give him one more year as captain and bonafide #1 status in the OHL, primo experience at the WJC in his home province. We can afford to let him cook in the oven for one more year, so I say we should.

Nikitin - Fayne
Klefbom - J Schultz
Marincin - Petry
Ference - Aulie
Hunt

Nurse is going to look very good on our backend and I don't want to rush him, with him Klefbom Schultz I feel very good about our future D right now.

I have a feeling Nuge as well Schultz both have big years. With the emphasis on D jumping in on the play and Ramsey as the D coach I think we see a big improvement out of Schultz. We have seen both play great so far this preseason imo

I'm glad the Oilers won, but make no mistake about it the Oilers should be beating teams like the Jets.

I watched the game and would say you are wrong.

The shots were not accurately recorded and also were not an indication of the play.

Many many of the jets shots were extremely low quality scoring chances. For scoring chances, even in the second I would say the teams were fairly even. First and third the oilers were the better team imo.

Yakimov was offensively pretty invisible but holy **** is he ever good at boards. Doesn't matter how many guys there was against him but he ALWAYS got the puck to own team.

I'm absolutely loving watching Draisaitl, and Yakimov's board play. I get giddy any time I watch Draisaitl just power past someone to keep the play going.

Well, it's just that Acrobello, Draisaitl and Lander need to play some games at C here and I think RNH and Gordon should play Thursday and Saturday with their linemates in their actual roles. Yakimov's getting at least one more game.

In Hunt's case, I don't see him playing an NHL game without catastrophic injuries, and I want to see Klefbom, Nurse and Marincin play on a team that has Schultz, Petry and Fayne.

Too few games to be carrying non-factors for the Oilers.

Absolutely agreed with this post. Time to bear down and start playing our roster as close to opening night as possible.

Man, if we had a 2C my expectations for this year would be sky high. Can't win em all I guess

Yep, a solid 2C, with Draisaitl as our 3C? That would be fantastic.

They're never going to beat the Kings, Ducks, Sharks or Blues, so they'd better darn well beat up all the other mediocre teams in the West if they want to compete.

God, they probably need to go .750 against the mediocre teams or something, don't they? :(

I think the wheels will fall off starting December 7:

SJ, SJ, ANA, ANA, NYR, AZ, SJ

I see us winning maybe 3 at the most in those stretch of games
