Don't EVER assume chias competency. That's like assuming you're going to win cash for life on the only lottery ticket you buy in 5 years.

It actually makes a lot of sense.

- Too many contract spots
- No room in the minors for him (too many D prospects and too few veteran slots available)
- No trade value (desperation that someone might claim him)
- Negligible effect to team cap hit

Really, it just comes down to the Oilers paying him to sit at home and burning a contract, or buying him and opening up a contract spot and letting him see if he can get a job elsewhere (Europe most likely).

Just seems like burning money (& cap-space) to me, one veteran guy on the AHL team isn't a bad thing and as long as he's buried he isn't hurting out cap space like he will be when bought out.
