It does, it's kind of crazy that they would have Spooner (3.1M), Manning (2.25M), Pouliot (1.3M), Gryba (0.3M) all buried or bought out counting against their cap. Not just for the rest of the season, but next season as well as none of them expire this year.

It won’t be that long.

Most of the garbage on this roster only has a couple years left. Lots of good pieces in place already. The issue is the deadweight and total lack of depth and that can turn around quickly in the right hands.

Montreal looked like a complete wasteland last year. One sharp trade and a good draft later...

We just have to hire a functional GM this time. We don’t need a special one even. Just an adequate one that won’t lose every trade they make and understand that you can’t ignore the cap.

The Oilers are incapable of drafting good outside of the lottery. They have to overpay to get free agents to play there. I agree with the 5 plus years.
