Osterle has impressed me every time I have seen him. Some interesting decisions to make next year.

Klefbom, Sekera and Davidson are locks.

How do we manage Nurse, Osterle, Reinhart?

McLellan said that he sees him more as a bottom sixer, so we will have to see. We definitely can't afford stupid penalties.

Has he been taken to arbitration? I think he's a bit overpaid for what he'll be bringing to the table considering the number of minutes we'll expect him to play...

Random stupid fact. We are 6-4-0 in the last 10 and that's 5th best in the league

Oilers might have something big with Oesterle.

Some players can just get it done at the pro level, and Oesterle looks like one of those types of players.

Some players are actually better at then NHL style game than the AHL style.

Ya, Klefbom was one of those. It tends to be skill players, who think the game quickly
Guys like Schultz who play high risk succeed because the other players are often not good enough to make you pay for it and the goalies are worse.

Guys like Oesterle don't shine as it's kind of a **** show

Premature to be saying too much about Oesterle just yet. I think even With Davidson its still too early.

All we have here is limited segments where a player looked good. We've had those before.

Lets not get too carried away either this was the Vancouver Canucks in tankmode last night. Really I wouldn't take anything at all from last night.

I would.
Talbot is stellar and our rag tag
d team is able to compete nightly with NHL teams. That and the stand out d are not NHL regulars

It's no fluke the seasoned AHL dman that played this year were great Klefbom Davidson Osterle and even Griffin looks like he is coming around with a season and a half in the minors.

With how good Davidson and Osterle have looked in their short stints, I think it would be foolish to not toss Reinhart and Nurse down in AHL next year. Whatever the Condors are doing with the defense is working

Even guys like Musil and Simpson are getting big praise

Pretty much means Nurse should be down there to get his act together and calm his game down. I swear that sometimes, Nurse's game reminds me of Yak's game.

The common thought is defensemen take longer. With the emergence of Davidson, and guys like Reinhart, Osterle, Nurse, Simpson, and Musil coming up behind, we may not need 3 or new 4 d-men. If Chia can find a guy this summer that clearly bumps Sekera and Klefbom into the 2/3 role, that they should be in, that may be enough. Reinhart and Osterle's play of late has been encouraging.

I don't disagree, but I think a lot of Nurse's problem stem from him being fatigued, mentally as well as physically. A tired mind makes more mental mistakes.

Ideally he'd be best in the minors, but I do believe that this experience will serve him well once next year hits. Look at Ristolainen, the guy some fans complain that we should've picked instead of him. He was a complete tire fire defensive his first 100 games or so in the NHL, but the Sabres are reaping the benefits of it now.

*Though it does bear mentioning that even though Ristolainen is blossoming offensively, he's still suspect defensively and is still the worst minus on the team.

Amen. RR is still figuring things out defensively and has nearly 200 pro games behind him. Unless he has an amazing offseason and comes to camp a madman, hell be in AHL for 20-40 games next seaosn, which isnt really that bad

People need to trust our AHL development which has been killing it recently

I see the Oilers keeping Fayne and/or Gryba. Both are passable bottom pairing guys and rhs. Fayne is a little pricier. Ideally Fayne can be moved if two of Nurse/Osterle/Reinhart look ready to be full time NHL guys next year. If not I'd still re-sign Gryba

Klefa - xxx
Sekera - Davidson
Osterele - Fayne
7D Gryba

I'm thinking Osterele wins the Osterle/Nurse/Reinhart training camp battle.

Reinhart and Nurse both could use a little more time in Bako. If either of them beat out Osterle in camp, so be it.

This is what I'm now hoping to see.

I really hope they stick Nurse in the AHL next year, with the mandate to focus on his offence. Yes, he is an NHL player now, but it's his physical tools which are carrying him. Put him in a position where he can develop his mind and hockey IQ.

There isn't a weakness to the kid's game: he's got size and can skate amazingly well; he can pass and shoot as well as with carry the puck; and he's is solid 1 on 1 defencively with outstanding compete in the defencively. He just needs to develop the ability to think the game at a higher level. I had the similar thoughts about Smid years ago, but he go turned into a defencive specialist.

(They actually did do something similar with Smid at the start of his second season here, where he was sent down for 8 games and put up 5 points before being brought back up to play 3rd pairing minutes with Staios... Hindsights a b***h I know, but I'd be willing to bet if Smid had stayed down for the season and put up ~40 to 50 points, he would have had an offencive side at the NHL level)

So send Nurse to Bakersfield and give him a good helping of PP time and offensive situations.

Nurse should play at least 40 games in the minors next year. I have Reinhart ahead of him in the depth chart for next season, it'd actually be nice to have some defensive depth in OKC for when the inevitable injuries hit.

no chance is Reinhart ahead of Nurse on the depth chart. and i'd be surprised if Nurse ever goes back to the AHL again....that would assume another d-man is going to outplay him at camp next year and i can't see it with any of the guys they called up.

Exactly.

That's why it would be great to see only one of Oesterle/Reinhart/Nurse start the season with the Oilers.

Hopefully Nurse sees the 'demotion' as motivation to force his way onto the Oilers next year at some point.
