Can't believe nobody has mentioned Del Zotto yet. There's the offensive dman so many of you want, only 24 years old. Could be a nice option next to Pysyk.

Buffalo could have gotten del zotto for free but instead opted for Mezaros and Strachan

Why is montreal trading their best player at all, let alone in division?

Doesn't seem like a realistic option.

They also weren't trying to improve. On the third pairing with a sturdy partner like Pysyk, or as a 7th D/PP specialist, I'd take a Flyer on Del Zotto. He's not McBain defensively.

Raphael Diaz is a guy who I always thought was underrated. But honestly I haven't seen him play the last couple of years. He's bounced around a lot the past two seasons and has missed a fair amount of time (injuries?). Anyone have a take on him?

I only use MDZ as an easy answer to the question of finding an offensive defenseman. I don't really see the need for one when you have two-way guys like Risto and Zads, but I would rather acquire one without trading assests than move a haul for somebody like Yandle.

Yeah, I don't think it's a question worth answering. MDZ flat out blows while someone like Yandle makes us marginally better but puts too much pressure on Zadorov / Bogo / Risto to be the responsible ones to really be worth it.

Gardiner is only intriguing because he's managed to drive a modicum of possession for a terrible Leafs team without being on the ice for all of the goals against. I'd like to see if he could apply his skillset to the left side of our shutdown pairing or be like Stralman with the Rangers - an ice-tilting top 4 guy.

Are there any Leddy or Boychuk situations where a team will have a cap casualty to deal?

Maybe the Kings depending on how the Voynov situation unfolds?

For next season, Smid. Big, mean, blocks shots, UFA in 17/18 with a cap hit of 3.5. Flames might consider moving him, seems expensive for a bottom pairing guy and the have to extend Giordano next year. I suggest Smid in this context; Zadorov could benefit by starting next season in Rochester, has a waiver exemption so similar situation to Pysyk this season. Weber only has a year left on his deal and may not be in the future plan or may want to leave. Smid can cover either scenario.

Hasn't looked good in 3 seasons, is way behind the likes of Coburn, Siedenberg, Oduya, etc.

Chara is going to be an UFA after next season. Boston is on the decline and up against it with the cap, so I doubt he resigns there.

Jared Spurgeon
Jared Cowen
Jake Gardiner
Carl Gunnarsson

Add to this list, I'm absolutely leaving names off.

?? the wild don't have any cap troubles, do they?

Spurgeon is one of my favorite D-men in the league. The guy is Pysyk with an offensive game and a lack of size. Such a beast of a player. He'd tear the east a new one.

I like him as well. But I'm not sure why he's being mentioned, Wild don't have any cap troubles and he still has 1 year left on his current deal which still leaves him as an RFA.

Him and Ennis are boys though. Maybe that'll help.

MN is ok cap wise. They are pretty tight with Dubynk and Grandund coming up as free agents, but my guess is they can make room without moving out reasonably signed Spurgeon.

Everyone says he's bad now, but I'd be willing to take on the last two years of Chara's salary if the Bruins decide to stripping down. He was playing injured last season, he might just rebound. Best case scenario he turns things around and gives us two solid years as a top-4 LHD, taking major pressure off the development of McCabe/Zadorov and the rehabilitation of Georges. Worst case scenario he struggles mightily this year, and spends 2016/2017 bought out, in the minors, or as a #7 D. Either way, it's just the kind of gamble I'd love to see Murray make. Only thing it costs us is what we have infinite of in the short term, cap space.

All that said, Sekera still fits in to the short and long term situation of this team so, so well, I'll be so please if we get him. Regardless, I'm now starting to think we should bring in two LHD, not just one.

If Boston trades Chara, it won't be in division. On top of that I doubt he'll waive his NMC to come here.

If they're trying to dump salary and are going full rebuild, what do they care if it's in division or not? If they're rebuilding, he'll be long retired before they're relevant again
