You're not in the NHL bubble until you're on an NHL roster/camp or the Taxi squad, those sent to the AHL were removed from the NHL bubble and put in the AHL bubble

But your also not in the bubble until you are Q’d ... sorta a chicken or egg.

Brann could go on the taxi squad now and Q for 7 days in Ottawa and play vs MTL ?

I'll give Dorion the benefit of the doubt here and assume he understood the rules around the taxi squad and quarantine. But why did he think it best just to sit all those prospects in Ottawa for so long instead of taking some on the road trip? Formenton, Brown and Brannstrom could have easily got in a game or two here instead of bringing around Zub, Aspirot, Peca etc.
The AHL season was supposed to start on February 5th. The Sens had originally planned on running their AHL training camp at the start of this week. I think they just wanted to set the prospects up well for a good start to the AHL season and were hoping that they would get some games. They are still getting some development down there as Troy Mann and his staff are still running drills, small ice scrimmages, skills development and having lots of video sessions. So prospects like Formenton, L.Brown, Brannstrom and Sokolov might still be getting decent development and maybe even better development than the taxi squad.

Maybe they would have put them on the taxi squad if they thought the AHL season was going to get delayed. With the full roster it was unlikely that taxi squad guys were going to get any games. DJ Smith had said at the end of training camp that they didn't anticipate any taxi squad guys would get games for 5 or more weeks. They haven't needed the taxi squad to this point. Haley got in a game but they still had Galchenyuk and White available. Chlapik is expected to play tonight but they still have Galchenyuk and Anisimov available. I am guessing we will see those prospects called up soon as the Sens are looking to spark the team and will want to give young players opportunities as part of the rebuild.

What is happening with the AHL was entirely predictable. The Sens should have been preparing as if the season was either massively delayed or cancelled.

Why are we acting like it’s delayed right now? Haven’t heard anything
The AHL starts on Feb 5th. Meanwhile, there's no schedule for Canadian teams. I really don't see the provincial and federal governments currently wrapped in scandals over covid and vaccine rollout giving people and the media more fodder by letting AHL teams. The optics are terrible and that's all they care about.

Boo.

I guess Stepan is back, hope we call up Zub so he can replace Brown or Coburn... Or Gudbranson?
Unless they call someone up this is mostly a money saving move as they have roster space with Wolanin on IR. Calling up Zub makes a lot of sense as the team is looking for improvements on defense and it is important to get a look at what Zub can bring to the table.

Short leash for Chlaps
He didn't show much in his call up. The problem with a guy like Chlapik is that he isn't very fast and he doesn't bring much offense to the lineup. He is a gritty defensive forward. Unfortunately for him there is an abundance of defensively responsible/strong grinding forwards. He is a good replacement if one gets injured but he brings a replaceable skill set to the table.

For example in last game they put him in the lineup and decided not to dress Galchenyuk. While that game the coaching staff a chance to see what Chlapik could bring to the lineup it also meant that we didn't dress a player that could have improved our power play. If Galchenyuk was dressed in his place we might have been able to score a goal or maybe a few on the powerplay which could have changed the outcome of the game.

I dunno man... He played 7 mins with Paquette and Watson... Not sure what he's supposed to show in that context... To me, in that limited time, he showed he was competent, once again.

The NHL is on national TV every Saturday night and is widely available to most people on their basic cable packages. The AHL is a regional niche that is only available on expensive streaming platforms.

The masses need their circus and the leaders know the AHL is not something most people care about. If they have to give them concessions than where does it stop? Soccer, CFL, junior hockey are all around the corner.

Who are our defensively responsible forwards who you would take over chlapik in the role he’s slotted in (4th line)

How can anyone that is on our taxi squad... not playing at all.. getting called up after what 8 games to the 4th line playing 7 minutes supposed to show much.
abundance of defensively responsible strong grinding forwards? What would you expect Chlapik to show beyond what he did?

You see an abundance of defensively responsible strong grinding forwards that are "showing much"? Yet Chlapik didn't show much.
