Tough way to wrap up the year with a four game sweep to the rival Oshawa Generals.. but the boys should be proud of themselves for a few reasons.. 1 - They are the first Petes team in 4 seasons to make the playoffs. 2 - Accomplished OHL History by becoming only the fourth team in the OHL to come back from being down 3-0 in a playoff series to win it 4-3 in a deciding game 7. (in OT too I might add!) Also a great year by management with the trades to bring in both MacDonald and Garlent. Now a look towards next season....

Gradudating Players:
Clark Seymour - RD
Nelson Armstrong - LD
Andrew D'Agostini - G

Best of luck to these three down the road...

Possible OA's for next year:
Michael Clarke - C
Josh MacDonald - RW
Brandon Devlin - RD
Connor Boland - G

Top OHL Draft Picks:
Round 1 - Jonathan Ang, RC.
Round 2 - Dylan Wells, G.
Round 2 - Matthew Timms, LD.
Round 3 - Matthew Cairns, LD.
Round 4 - Adam Timleck, RW.

Potential Wild Card Additions:

Jake Walman - Providence College
Zac Tierney - Ottawa Jr. Senators
Hunter Racine - Colgate College
Steve Santini - Boston College
Connor Clifton - Quinnipac University
Matt Weis - Ohio State University

with all that here is my take on what the Petes lineup may look like next season...

Ritchie - Garlent - Cornel
Betzold - Clarke - MacDonald
Lorentz - Stefano - Ang
J.Webb - Coyle - McCartney
M.Webb

Boland - Spencer
Varga - Euro
Lizotte - Trade (Graves?)
Timms

Trade (Gibl?)
Wells
Smith

Guys id sign and put in Jr.A/Use for injury call ups -
Scott Smith('97 G), Matt Cairns('98 D), Adam Timleck('98 RW)

forward group looks very promising but we are in desperate need of a goaltender and some veteran defenseman for next season, hopefully Oke can use some of his many 2nd round picks he has stocked up to bring in some help. Some goalies I would think could be available: Nichols, Patterson(London one), Gibl and very unlikely but maybe some upper tier guys like Graham or Martin.

Rookie camp usually starts around May 3rd and it cant come soon enough....
Go Petes Go!!!

When a junior team can bring back all but 4 players for next season, things are looking up. A couple of signings from the recent draft and an import pick and you are good to go.

I'm sure they want to get rid of a few 95's...cant see them wanting to keep varga around too badly...theres some good options on junior a kids to trade for.

Who do you think could potentially be had from junior A that could step in and contribute right away?

Lose respect for people who revamp this hockey team after the club just got beat out after a historic run.

So in your mind you cut Nosad, Tanus and Maguire who are vets in the league next year and you go with two rookies (J.Webb, Coyle) M.Webb and McCartney? really? And you don't keep Devlin over Bolland? all without explanations. This team is going to make a run for it next season as they have a very good chance at contending. You don't re-vamp your team again and hope your lines will be good.

This team is built much like Guelph was last year. Oke will make moves but they will be minimal.

This team will be an alright team next year. To say they are built like Guelph is a dream that will not be fulfilled. Guelph has 6-8 guys who can score 30, 4 defenseman that are drafted and two solid goalies. Peterborough is a good team but relies on Ritchie, Cornel and Garlent who can score 25. Spencer is there only real top defenseman and next year won't have a goalie.

Tanus - Lacks the drive for a winning team. He has very questionable compete level. Personally wouldn't be on my team

Maguire - he will be battling with both Webbs and Coyle for fourth line minutes. I can see him wanting out. He could play top nine somewhere else

Nosad - good skater and a great defensive player. I'd want him on my team.

Devlin - Has a good hard shot, plays hard but lacks the defensive game. Boland is the captain and will be picked over him as well as Clarke And MacDonald to be there OAs

Both Webbs are young and can play fourth line minutes and McCartney is a defensive specialist.

Just another teams fan chiming in here. Congratulations on the god playoff run.

Also Petes had a phenomenal draft this year. Look for Timleck and Schulz to compete for a spot this year.

Petes96, the season is over... It was a good run there is absolutely no denying that but yes I am going to look forward to our potential lineup for next season... Now to show why your criticism is way off....

Nosad can't get the puck out of the zone and contributes nothing offensively.

Maguire is a very useful heart and soul player but I'd imagine he will be looking to play top 9 and I just don't see it happening here in PBO next season.

Tanus has no compete what so ever and won't be back. Mark my words on that one. He has given up LONG ago.

Devlin is good offensively but only occasionally, he has no control of his slap shot.. He just prays that it is going to go in and it ruins the flow of the PP. If it was up too me I wouldn't return Boland or Devlin.

By no means did I revamp the team... By my lines we return 10 of a possible 12 forward spots... Revamp certainly means something different in my books.

Also, Jake Walman and Jonathan Ang were in the PMC last night... Good to see. Interesting offseason ahead.

It looks as if Michael Clarke is not heading to Lake Erie in the AHL on a PTO like many expected... This likely means Colorado will not sign him and he will be entered back into the draft. This could be very good news for Petes as he would be given an OA spot for sure. Seymour should be headed to Wilkes-Barrie.

Some good comments here about Nick Ritchie and his game headed towards NHL Draft -

Looks like Jake Walman has officially commited to Providence.

@FriarsHockey: Welcome the newest Friars as the Class of 2018 has been announced!

Scouting reports from thescout.ca on

Dylan Wells -
"Good sized butterfly goalie with solid athleticism and body control. A strong 'first shot' goalie who relies heavily on quick, cat-like reflexes. Adopts a wide stance and is hard to beat down low due to impressive flexibility and extensions. Makes saves look easy due to economic and sharp reflexes, is quick and fluid moving laterally. Strives to stay square to shooters, using his wide upper body to protect the top of the net. Very competitive, yet must continue to refine his technique and game reading skills as he can overplay situations, which leads to bad rebounds. Puck management and rebound control remain suspect areas. Kicks out some juicy rebounds back into the slot, creating gratuitous secondary chances. Projects out as a potential starting goaltender at the next level, one who can slot into a backup role right off the bat. Will come into Peterborough with the ability to be impactful given the lack of available options between the pipes for the Petes next year. (Matt Stewart, 2014)"

Matthew Timms -
"Aggressive blueliner who impacts the game in multiple ways. Competitive workhorse with crisp passing skills and a smart outlet. Plays in all situations, competes physically, works hard to protect the crease and slot areas. Effective in closing down space and covering gaps, aided by productive stickwork. Proficient at getting his stick into lanes and deflecting shot attempts. Alert offensively, continues to develop better poise and patience carrying the puck. Composed under pressure, dissolves forechecking heat and makes a safe first pass. Smart and safe, rarely makes a rash or ill-advised decision. Attains very good top speed from a healthy stride, though his agility and first step can look sluggish. Needs to upgrade his acceleration and backwards mobility, as he can struggle maintaining proper gaps. Will need to bulk up a lean but decently sized frame. Can go over the line, needs to show more discipline and poise in key situations, as he can take some questionable penalties. Projects as a top 4 defender at the next level, one who can contribute on the powerplay or penalty kill. Will have the opportunity to play some important minutes early for the Petes, given the teams graduating defence core. (Sean Lafortune, 2014)"

Any chance the rosters and schedule have been released for rookie camp yet?

The rosters and schedule were released yesterday online:

http://gopetesgo.com/article/development-camp-schedule-and-rosters-released

Every draft pick other then the two NCAA guys will be there. (Walman and Clifton.)

The one notable free agent invite that will be attending is Nick Thomakos who played last season for the Toronto Jr. Canadians. He had 25 points in 48 games as an undrafted 16 year old in junior b. Not too shabby.

Congrats to Jonathan Ang on signing with the team.. Should see some more signings in the next week or two. Hoping to see Timms, Wells, Cairns and Timleck all sign.

Looking forward to seeing what Oke has up his sleeve for the euro draft. I would go with one forward and one defenseman. Could be some interesting trade targets if he wanted to go that route instead like Sloboda or Kodola.

NHL Draft coming up will be interesting. Where Ritchie goes will make or break the Petes season next year, need him back in a big way.

I think one of Guelps goalies will be our main trade target for starting job. An interesting name though is Boyd DiClemente.. His rights are owned by Saginaw and played last season for the Whitby Fury.

EDIT: not good, sounds like Timleck is already drawing a ton of interest from NCAA schools and will be a tough sign.

Looks like Belleville's coming in for an exhibition on Labour Day, so my wife and I are going to come in to watch a game!

I've been wanting to check out your rink for several years.

Best of luck to Ritchie, Cornel, Walman(even though he isn't a Pete), Stefano, Garlent and Lorentz in these next two days at the NHL Draft in Philidelphia.

Go Petes Go

Congrats to Nick Ritchie 10th overall to the Anahiem Ducks, with the Ducks depth this is also great news for the Petes as they will likely get to watch Nick Ritchie play a 4th season in the 'borough!

Congrats to Eric Cornel, 44th overall to the Buffalo Sabres.

What do you think of the second Petes import pick?

In my opinion he kind of sounds like Zadorov. Don't get me wrong.. I don't expect him to be Zadorov by any means but he is 6'4 and a steady defensive defenseman with a cannon of a shot. If he reports and I'm sure he will, sounds like someone who could develop into a top pairing dman!

Ritchie/Garlent/MacDonald

Betzold/Clarke/Cornel

Lorentz/Stefano/Ang

Coyle/McCartney/Timleck

D.Masin / M.Spencer

C.Boland / Trade

A.Vladimirov / C.Lizotte

M.Timms

Trade/D.Wells

Id like to see Oke target Nichols for the goalie trade and a right handed shot for the 2nd pairing. Maybe a guy like Ganly from soo? Duno if they'd move him though

Scouting Report on Dominik Masin:

Scouting Report: Future Considerations had him ranked 130th for this year's draft and had this to say, "He is a stay-at-home defenseman who doesn’t really fail when he goes to the blue line, but his offensive upside doesn’t go beyond the fact that his shot is hard and a bit accurate. His passes are just okay and so is his carrying of the puck. In his own zone, you will see him use both his stick and his large frame to steal pucks from opponent’s sticks. He’s the guy who will do the hard work back there and protect his goaltender as much as possible. He’s a hard worker and has good leadership abilities. He likes to get into the rough stuff if an opponent crosses the line and he feels the need to do something." Our anonymous Euro scout says, "Showed two faces during the season, solid and steady at international level but tended to play in role of puck moving, more offence oriented D in junior Extraleague which will never work for him, lacks above average puck skills and creativity to be that kind of player. I don´t see very high upside at NHL level, for me he is third pair D who could be used on PK, I wouldn´t select him that high in NHL draft, more of mid-round pick for me. Not punishing hitter, lacks mean streak but more of banger, pins opponents at the boards, wins battles taking the puck away, blocks shots, competes to keep crease clear. Not afraid to handle the puck and rush him up the ice but hands are average at best, not creative at all, misses some good passing lines holding on puck too long, lacks instinct. Thought process is all right but execution is lacking at times, passes lacks zip and accuracy at times. Most effective when he moves the puck quickly, has poise under pressure with puck on stick, reading in own zone is solid as well as decision making. He is not skilled enough to be PP guy at higher level, shot is only decent. His d-zone awareness is good, doesn´t make positional mistakes. Not the smoothest stride and not great forward speed but decent lateral mobility, turns fairly well, moves his feet and plays solid gap. Contains well in corner and tough to beat 1 on 1 off the rush, reads well and uses active stick. Good character and some leadership ability, plays with intensity, usually solid and steady defensively."

Scouting report on Artem Vladimirov:

Scouting Report: Alessandro Seren Rosso says, "A big defensive defenseman with good discipline, doesn’t play overly aggressive and never had problems with PIMs. He doesn’t join the rush and isn’t much of an offensive threat, he definitely has to improve his offensive skills, he can be a good player at junior level, we’ll see what he can do as a pro he might lack some offensive skills to actually succeed, at least at NHL level."
