What does that mean?
Means we actually will have an extra skater instead of having exactly 18 on the roster.

This feels like a victory of some kind
Wouldn't be surprised if he tries it for a period then gives up if they don't score, though, so lots of pressure.
19. As Calgary starts slowly, remember the Flames shot 8.9 per cent at five-on-five in 2014-15. That was second-best in the NHL.
It’s early, but they are 22nd so far this season, at 5.8 per cent. And opponents seem determined not to let Calgary kill them with the long bomb, an important weapon from a year ago.
What's the point of yo-yoing Granlund like that? Just give him a decent chance to show that he belongs into NHL lineup.

I think the biggest reason is he's still waiver exempt, as well as having not shown he belongs in an NHL lineup yet. What's the point of yo-yoing Granlund like that? Just give him a decent chance to show that he belongs into NHL lineup.

I am looking forward to the reactions to the defense pairings Hartley is trying out
Giordano - Wideman
Russell - Engelland
Smid/Nakladal - Hamilton
looks like he is just saying **** it and throwing it in a blender
No, I don't think so. This was already tweeted out the day after the Washington game. It makes sense.
Giordano and Wideman have shown great chemistry on the PP, and when put together in the third Giordano instantly looked 10x better. Plus, having a better player with Wideman can only be a good thing.
From there, you have Russell, Engelland, Smid and Hamilton to put somewhere...
Russell and Engelland have been paired together in the past. Having Engelland instead of Wideman allows Russell to use his skating and creativity offensively a little bit more, with Engelland being a true stay-at-home guy.
Moving Hamilton down to play with Smid or Nakladal will allow him to be used against worse competition. Hopefully he can spend more time in the offensive end and less time in the defensive end, hemmed in by the other team's stars. Less responsibility may allow him to showcase the positive aspects of his game rather than the negative aspects which have been highlighted so far on the top pairing.
