I looked up the opening time for Walmart and it says Black Friday starts at 6pm on Thanksgiving. Hopefully it’s because they open earlier every year.
IT'S BECAUSE THE ARCHAIC BLUE LAWS Maine AND other states have used, whereas any establishment over 5K Square footage couldn't be open on any national holiday, MH33, that's why the addendum was added to state certain states could open at 6 pm on a holiday...that's why "Black Friday" YOU'D SEE stories about 12:01 AM openings

Unpopular opinion but I'm happy that MA has these archaic blue laws for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Black Friday is absolutely ridiculous tbh.

I've already done all my Christmas shopping for my kids, and it was all online (except for one thing I can pick up any time). UPS made a another delivery today. I used to stand in line for deals, but that was when doors opened at 5AM. I once stood in line for a 12:01 opening, but I don't have any need to do that anymore. You can get most every Black Friday deal online, and get the sleep you need. At this point, not sure I NEED anything enough to have to leave Thanksgiving dinner early to go stand in line.

Same.

I think people get so wrapped up in the greed and commercialism of Black Friday that they forget about what the workers are giving up in order for them to have this opportunity.

"I'm so thankful for everything I have"

10 mins later

"Sorry family. I need to cut out of dinner early to wait in line for some $400 headphones that are on sale for $50. I NEED THEM."

Nobody should be working Thanksgiving & Christmas, those are days to be spent with family.
I worked in the coffee shop on Thanksgiving while in college so others could travel home to be with their families. I lived local and we didn't eat until later in the day so it just made more sense to do. No one forced me to do it which is why I always volunteered.

If I were being forced to work however, I would have quit.

Same.

Let people have the day off. I wish the law prohibited them from opening until 8 or 9 am the next day.

I worked 3 black Fridays when I worked at GameStop years ago, and each was awful.

We would open for 1am on Friday, but we'd be in the store at 12:15am setting up.

Thanksgiving was always a bummer because I'd go to sleep at like 6 or 7 just to get some rest prior to working.

It was enough to make me never ever go out on Black Friday to shop.

I did black friday 2 years ago. Wasnt crazy IDK what time I even went. This year may do it again but dont have my eye on much. mostly waiting on dispensary sales

I worked at Best Buy for a few years and did the Black Friday thing. Didn't mind working that Friday to be honest, but eventually they started wanting to do it on Thanksgiving which was pathetic

Honestly I did kind of enjoy Black Friday though. One year I worked the open til close, 7am-10pm. And then went to my other job after. Was kind of crazy but I was 21 and enjoyed torturing myself with work

I work in TV now and there really are no days off in that business. Will probably be working Thanksgiving and Christmas for the rest of my life now

I worked at a POLO years ago. Black Friday I folded a shirt, put it down, 2 seconds later a lady picked it up, looked at it for 5 seconds then threw it back down.

That was the day I realized I 100% dislike people.

Here’s a story you’ll all know the ending to before I get there:

Come home from work
House feels cool
Temp in house is 64 degrees
Check thermostat
It’s set to 69
Quick math calculation reveals there’s no heat

No worries, been here before and done this

Run to Home Depot to grab a thermocouple
Come home and remember I have a millivolt system

Run to the local hardware store that I know has this in stock
They sure do, they are fantastic
Get home and tell my daughter “this should be the easy part”

:shakehead

That was stoopid

Had a problem getting the old thermocouple out
Suddenly remembered this happened last time I had to replace this too
It all came back to me
Got the old one out after having to pull everything out of the boiler
Put the new one in, remember to put everything back where it was and turn the gas back on

Good to go!

Right?

Nope.

Pilot still won’t stay lit
Try holding it down longer

Nope

Finally give in and call for emergency service
Guy says”It’s $195 for me to come out”
Me: “I know. The pilot won’t stay lit, we have no heat”
Guy: “try holding it down longer”
Me: “Sure!”
We wait and I let go

Pilot. Goes. Out.

Guy: “Ok I’ll be there in a few minutes”

He comes, we go downstairs, he lights the pilot, it goes out.
Lights it again

Here’s the ending you all figured out already:

The f***ing thing lights up like a Christmas tree in late January

Me:”What did you do?”
Guy: “Held down the pilot longer”

Me: Out $195 bucks plus the $44 for the thermocouple which I needed.

But we have heat

Slipping and falling was my biggest fear this morning. I am terrified to fall again on ice only to hit my head (ptsd from my fall in January and what happened to my dad).

I didn't fall thank god but my car did a slight fishtail just before getting on to 128 this morning. Took my breath away. I'm not ready for the winter.

@Bruinaura I'm in day 2 of open enrollment and am going to need a lot of cookies tonight haha.

I bought 2 bottles of wine this morning on my way to work and I don't think it will be enough judging by the emails I've already received today.

FYI people: there is a difference between a domestic partner and a spouse.
