Besides the bad value, the very last thing Calgary needs is more forwards, with Dubé looking like he deserves a top-9, maybe top-6 spot and bumping others down the lineup. They have 11 players (Gaudreau, Monaghan, Neal, Tkachuk, Backlund, Lindholm, Ryan, Jankowski, Bennett, Frolik, Dubé) fully capable of a top-9 role already.

Flames can keep Bennett, give Wings a 2nd and 3rd and you can have Nyquist at 50% retain

Huge overpayment and Nyquist no longer films a need for the Flames. We just acquired two superior RWs.

Nyquist never really reached his potential. He's now soon to be a UFA.

The Flames also aren't giving up on Bennett just yet. There's a reason why every other team is hoping to acquire him. He's not a throw in at this point.

Yeah, he only way I see the Flames interested at all is if it is a deadline acquisition and we are solidly in the playoff picture and even then I cannot see Bennett being involved.

The Flames are kind of full on depth forwards. There may not even be room for a promising prospect like Dube. Nyquist wouldn't be worth the price for them.

If we hadn't picked up Neal and Lindholm to play RW in our top six maybe. But realistically we need to hang onto our picks a bit right now, as we've been short more than a few lately and I don't want our prospect pool to go back to shit.

Nyquist, Gustav ($4,750,000)

2019 2nd round pick (CGY)
2020 4th round pick (CGY)
Bennett, Sam ($1,950,000)

Is this a joke?

-Nyquist is a small, high skill player. The Flames have a systemic abundance of those between Gaudreau, Czarnik, Ryan, Dube, Mangiapane, Phillips, and Zavgorodny. They also have some guys who are on the soft side in Monahan and Lindholm in their top six. They just got rid of Hunter Shinkaruk for a similarly talented Kirby Rychel because of how redundant Shinkaruk became in their system. Not only is Bennett just as or more skilled than Nyquist, he's younger, cheaper, under team control longer, bigger and more physical, has comparable edgework, probably faster, and significantly more versatile. He's simply more valuable than Nyquist as-is. When it comes to value, if Larkin and Bennett were to swap places in terms of opportunity, Larkin would be putting up Bennett numbers and Bennett would be exceeding Larkin's numbers, quote me on that. That's the kind of value Detroit would need to offer to get a conversation started.

- Even pretending they were to trade away Bennett, the Calgary Flames have the following left shot forwards who would play ahead of him on the first PP:

Tkachuk
Gaudreau
Monahan

and the following left shot forwards who would play ahead of him on the second PP:

Backlund
Neal
(Bennett)
Jankowski

and still yet, have left shot forwards who provide better versatility, more two-way potential, and lower cap hits
Dube
Frolik
Mangiapane

- Now back to Nyquist's contract, he is a nearly five million dollar pending UFA. Which the Flames cannot afford to re-sign to term anyways even at the same cap hit, and if they could, they'd be far better off spending it on a better UFA, like Micheal Ferland.

- And finally, on top of all that, you want Calgary to add draft picks?

Preposterous.

Just here to agree with all of the Flames fans, this isn't the right fit. Flames are deep enough on the wings and you're undervaluing Bennett. Ideally Nyquist will go to a playoff team at the deadline for their first a la Tatar.

Calgary seriously needs to hold on to their picks. They have barely picked the last couple years in the top rounds.
