I’ll just say it again, but this feels like cap circumvention to me. They sign a guy at the very last minute, and it just so happens that his contract is structured in a manner that his cap hit is a boat load this year when it doesn’t matter, and is much smaller in years 2-6 when the Leafs are in a cap crunch.

I’m not even saying that they did this intentionally, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t think this should be legal under the next CBA.

Then it appears you're not quite understanding the full picture of an RFA holdout withdrawing his services from a team for 2 months. Where's your new avatar at?

Not a bad deal for the Leafs but bring on the headaches this summer. Lots of wheeling and dealing coming.

took this long to sign a fair deal for both teams

I feel like this is more Dubas than Nylander camp

Even if the cap goes up next summer, it will only be about 2 mil.

Marleau has a nmc, I dont see why he would waive it.
Zaitsev is a cap dump with 6 years left.
Neither of these 2 will be easy to move.
Marleau is getting paid like the league minimum next year, he's not playing out that deal
They have to eat something to dump Zaitsev, oh well boo hoo

I've seen harder deals happen.

AAV if you account every year of the contract is 7,5ish. Cap hit is 6,996,000 year 2-6.

I guess you missed my edit but you're wrong, again...basic math

26/82 = 0.31707317073
6,996,000 / 0.68292682926 = 10,244,142
So 6.996 = 10.2

the 7.5m number would be valid if his cap hit is 10.2m assuming he played 82 games this season (not the case)

so basically 7m? 6.996 is not too bad though
Marner will probably not go below the 8 mark
Matthews the 10.5 mark.
whew

I think a better way to look at it than this is that Nylander is making $41.77 million and only having to play 5.66 seasons, instead of saying he signed a $45 million contract. If you want to go that route, Nylander is getting $7.37 million a season from this contract. It makes more sense to include both the salary he lost and the length of time he didn't have to play.
Well thats a different way of looking at it. The fact is he signed a 45m dollar contract but loses money from the first two months of the deal because he didnt play at that time.

So we're gonna be gutting our team of Hyman, Brown, Hainsey and Gardiner (who was already 90% gone anyway)

we as Leafs and DON"T GIVE A FOOK

Feels like they met in the middle. Surprised it took so long when it seems like people were predicting a similar number for a while now.

What?
You realize Marleau signed a 3 year deal with the leafs so he could have a chance to the cup?
And you think he will retire after only 2 years to help the leafs?
