I don’t mind it, but It’s not a smart idea to play nylander on L3 with holmberg and probably knies

He won’t produce, and he’ll get hate for putting up like 4 in 7. We have to maximize our big players and put them in positions to succeed.

Moreover, I don’t really think holmberg will work with those guys. He’s not really smart enough offensively or talented enough to keep up, he made that nice play to Robertson that was offside, and it was his 1 play of the game. It’s like that most games where he does one noticeable thing in the ozone

I’d rather we go like Knies - Holmberg - jarnkrok L3 and try and have them do nothing for 11-13 minutes a game. Put 88 and 16 together with JT down the middle and see if something can happen there
Some Florida beat writer was giving Florida's 3rd line some credit for their success last year, specifically Luostarinen and said once he was hurt the Panthers suffered. That is what Holmberg will be up against. If he gets dominated, Keefe will have to make the adjustment. The only answer I see is Tavares, assuming 16,91,88 are not dominating Florida's second line more.

Lol...if you say so.
Just note that last years number of 99 in 81 contrasts to Willy's 80 in 81 when he was the same age.
Adjusted for games played, Marner is already past 100 pt scoring rate this year. You go ahead and cheer a bit louder
you are comparing stats of 7M player to a 11M player. Makes Marner look worse.

Another defensive gem from Styles, isn’t scoring and plays ass defence since signing that bloated contract, well done Shanahan, well done indeed………

not a hot take. its reality. 40+ goals and 100pts is WAY better than 70 assists and 100pts.
If you ignore defensive responsibilities and the fact it is a career year for Nylander 1 year older than Marner.
Marner has 111 more points career wise with 27 less games. Give it a rest. Nobody knowledgeable puts them as equals.

Who cares about who reaches 100 first.. Mitch and Willy surely dont. What matters is how they do in the playoffs. Pretty sure most knowledgeable would put Willy as at least equal to Marner when it comes to big games..

Leafs are bad defensively and on the PK and Marner has his fingerprints all over it. The myth about Marner being good defensively is not correct.

Nylander is more impressive in almost all categories.

He is good at slacking in the dzone and blowing the zone. It's pretty impressive you think that is great.

He is good at stripping pucks. That is about it.

As for blowing the zone, that seems to be a Leaf strategy. It used to be Hyman that was first man out anticipating a turnover. Now it's Willy. Who does like to leave before the actual turnover.

The Leafs are below average defensively and on the PK this year, and they would be even worse without Marner - one of their best defensive players and PKers.

There are a heck of a lot more categories than just skating.

I really don't know why we are still trying to compare the two.

I love Willy, but he simply is not as good as Mitch as a 200 foot player.

I just appreciate what he brings. Yes, the odd time he can be frustrating, but he still helps the team more often than not

How the f*** are people not exhausted with this silly Marner vs Nylander debate?
You're joking right?
People post the same things daily whether it be "you can't win in the playoffs with 4....." or "Marner ......." or "Tavares......."

Every single day.

That's why playoffs are nice it's about the only couple weeks out of the year where the debate goes away for awhile.

Not 100% sold on that.

Kind of think Marner will get killed on here if he doean't put up 3 points a game.

We are paying an 80 - 90 point player like he is a 120 - 140 point player. He has been absolutely abysmal since signing that contract. Treliving should have jerked him off in contract negations until the end of the season to keep him motivated throughout the playoffs. Once again MLSE does things ass backwards. I wouldn't have shed a tear if he left.

Noone can say Matthews and Marner has delivered when it matters the most. They can say it , but it aint true. If they puts up no points or goals in games that matter the most , he will be killed. Matthews seems to not be as blamed , wich is kind of odd.

hmm this was the Nylander thread.. thought i was in the Marer thread ... well same same but different..

1) He hasn't been. He actually was pacing an even higher point per game for a long stretch after the signing. He has had a miserable 10 game stretch.

2) For the 7 million he has gotten paid for this year, he has exceeded that.

3) A deep playoff run where he performs will silence the critics til next year

Maybe not even then, he gets blamed for PK goals when he isn't on the ice so there will be something else imagined.
