i'm surprised someone still wants Gudbrason. I am shocked.

We've dressed 14 defensemen this year so far and are playing several rookies + Fabbro, who's out, just reached his 100th game. Gudbranson sucks, but he'll probably be steadier than Davies in the playoffs and he only brought in a 7th three years from now.

If there's any team that can make him look like a good no.6-8 defenseman it's Nashville.

so comparable to Boro...

i would say that boro has a bit more foot speed and is better at displaying patience on defense. A good comparison though. If this deal was made to upgrade on boro then it is a mistake

He is good for the PK and defensive zone starts (but with no knack for the breakout) - very specific specialist. At his best he looks like Willie Mitchell and at his worst he looks like John Scott.

Even if Gudbranson isn't very good, a 2023 7th is, well, a 2023 7th. If he's a turnstile you can just tie him to the bench in favor of Davies/Carrier/Benning. I still think, though, that if Nashville wanted a cheap RHD (asset-wise), Hakanpaa should've been the target and not Gudbranson. Same size, same grit, same ability to knock some dudes in a fight, but also with some stellar defensive metrics.

Why are NHL teams still paying anything for Gudbranson?

Wouldn't want him back at league minimum for free.

Draft pedigree. If was a a 7th rounder he’d likely long be out of the league.

least he didn’t cost much of anything. Still weird that someone pays anything while a better asset like Mete goes on waivers.

Said waiver guy also had no chance of being picked up by anyone except a bottom-feeder. Nashville wasn't it. So a 2023 7th for some sandpaper makes some sense. I just wonder to myself why Poile didn't push in the direction of Anaheim to get that sort of guy. Was Hakanpaa really that off-the-radar?
