1. Fire or POHO Treliving. Hire a) Gorton or b) Lombardi.

2. Extend or trade Gaudreau. He dictates the direction of the team; sign = retool, trade = rebuild.

3. Shake up the core. Without being in the locker room to fully understand the dynamics, my preference is to trade Monahan and hope Seattle takes Giordano.

Other possibilities are trading Gio/Backlund with retention to maximize suitors and return. Moving Tkachuk or Andersson if it improves the team elsewhere.

Man all this talk about tanking and picking first overall several years in a row isn't going to matter if this organization doesn't change how we use young players. If we continue to put young players in the bottom 6 and limit their opportunities to learn and develop we can have 4 first overalls and without a McDavid level player nothing will change. We don't need to finish dead last we need a management team that will actually build around our young talent and will develop them. Stop trading picks for players that aren't young enough to be part of the core, stop signing vets to take ice time from the prospects. It doesn't matter if we pick 1st or 10th take the best player available and actually develop them. The Oilers and Sabres have proved you can take as many top picks as you want but incompetent management will still hold them back.

After some more thought, you simply can not trade yourself into a Stanley cup contender

This core is rotten, they can not win. The only option is to rebuild. Wright and Bedard are the most attractive path. Keep Treliving, he is doing a great job getting us there.

After we get Wright and or Bedard, hire a real GM that understands a good roster. He can trade whatever left over to get the right support for the new core
