Chris Pronger was slow?

He may have LOOKED slow because he's a big body but he got where he needed to be due to his long stride

yeah not the best example. he was definitely mobile enough.

Jumbo Joe is not only slow himself, he somehow slows down his team along with the other team and still manages to be a really effective player. Kopitar, Getlzaf, and Tavares aren't necessarily "slow" but are all forced to be very efficient with their stride.

Weber and Suter for blue liners. Brooks Orpik while not really being the most notable player, had a notable performance in this year's playoffs as a player who remained effective while sometimes looking like a geriatric on skates.

The Sharks win when they move the puck quicker than the opposition can handle, not by outskating them.

I disagree heavily with this, it’s one of the reasons he is so awful defensively, he’s a slug out there. Only gonna get worse now that he’s getting closer to 30. If freaking Pavelski is in this thread, JvR belongs 110%

Speed gets incredibly over-rated nowadays.

combinations of 'not fast' players that were really effective. Not necessarily slow but ...

Neither Sedin can fly as much as you'd think with how dominant they were.
The whole 600 lb line with Knuble, Murray and Thornton wasn't exactly melting the ice.
Getzlaf and Perry.
Bergeron and Recchi (also had Lucic and Horton on another line) - not exactly speed based.
Spezza and Heatley (although he was faster then) were pretty dominant or Marc Savard and Heatley.
Adam Oates and Brett Hull (pre-04 but ... )

I think Patrik Laine just looks slow due to his big body and long strides. He was 0.1s slower than Bo Horvat in 2017 allstar competition and Horvat ain't the slowest guy
