He was playing like hot garbage. That has nothing to do with character

When you're looked at as someone with experience in the tournament, and the entire team was playing like hot garbage and you get singled out, it has a lot to do with character.

There were also rumblings that his effort/commitment to the tournament was questionable, which led to the poor play - also unacceptable.

Look... I'm a fan of his. he is extremely talented and a valuable piece of our future as long as he grows up. But this stuff is not good. And nothing to just brush off as the incidents pile up. People don't get suspended regularly by their own teams.

Poor play at a tournament is a link to character? What the hell? Hr was bad, he got scratched. Big deal.

You're making an awful big deal out of absolutely nothing, he screwed up with his flight. Big deal, he'll learn. The kid is 19. I'm 18 now, I make crappy decisions all the time. He'll grow up when he.. Gets older.

Character critiques to a 19 year old is completely ridiculous. He can't even legally buy booze for god sake.

When you are a professional athlete making 7 figures using your age as a reason you are immature is a joke. Plenty of 25 year olds are immature in the real world too, so if a 25 year old player was immature that should be ok too right? Zadorov has been pulling **** all season. Refusing to be sent down. Suspended now. Coming into the season completely out of shape when Risto came in jacked. Ristolainen is the same age, guess he's just mature for his age

A 25 year old has years and years of experience being a professional. Ristolainen by his own admission was 20 pounds overweight last season and ate too much fast food. That's despite having been a professional hockey player for three years previous. Is that sterling professionalism?

Not everybody matures and gets their ***** together at the same age. Some kids have it by the time they get to high school, some right after high school, some a couple years later and well some just never do.

Now you take a kid who hasn't fully matured in the real world and throw him a 6 figure contract at the age of 19. Now there's the next step in his maturing process.

I was 21 when I woke up, so I'm willing to give Zads the benefit of the doubt for the time being with confidence that the staff will do everything they can to help him on and off the ice. Soon enough there'll be a young leadership core coming up and he'll either be apart of it or he won't, maybe that's when he'll grow up and fulfill his potential.

Internal player suspensions that become public like this are SO ****ING RARE.

It has to concern you.

I agree that an internal suspension like this is pretty rare. But I don't get your assertion that these things don't become public. The team may on occasion keep the reasons for a team suspension private but the suspension itself would be known. And in this day and age its almost impossible to keep the reasons out of the press for very long.

As suspected sounds like bonehead decision, but nothing really bad.

This is why you bring in veteran leaders so that when Zads finally rejoins the team he gets a lecture from management and it is reinforced in the locker room. Hopefully Gionta and Gorges will make him do the walk of shame and let him no that he has ****ed everyone over and to not let it happen again. This in contrast to having Derek Roy high five him and asking to see his homemade porn from the trip.

I don't think it's as big a deal as some here think it is.

Could be Murray just sending a message to Zadorov and his agent for the position they put him in at the beginning of the season. And again, he's frickin 19 and probably entitled a bit after getting his way and not having to go to juniors.

Well said and I fully expect the vets to set him straight.

I remember the reports when they were dealing with his conditioning, etc in the first month of the season. It was mention that the vets and coaches spent time with him outside the normally scheduled practices/workouts to help get him on track to be able to play. Its why Murray targeted some of the vets he brought in.

I agree in the grand scheme of things its not that big a deal. But missing check in without a valid excuse gets any player suspended. Zads certainly didn't have a valid excuse. So I don't see this as any punishment or retaliation for earlier in the year. Its simply enforcement of the rules.

You have to allow yourself enough time to get back if issues arise. It's not always the first thing on your mind especially when you have a demeanor that I think Zads does. Life is good..always thinking positively.. not expecting bad things to happen. It's just a learning process. Suspension is warranted ..not worried about it in the slightest.

If Pat Kane can battle cabbies over 20 cent refunds, walk around Madison, WI in a drunken stupor, get shirtless in a Limo with puckbunnies hanging on each arm, and STILL become the face of USA Hockey, then I still have hope for Zadorov.

Wait. Wasn't it greg o'renko who refused (at first) to go back down to juniors, but eventually reported?

When did Zads refuse to be sent down?

I thought we kept him up in the big club, because of the situation with his agent and the KHL? didn't know what would happen with him, so we kept him here to keep an eye on him?

He didn't refuse anything. He missed his flight back from the Dominican Republic

Nolan said he's still waiting for Zadorov to arrive in Calgary. Said he needs to speak with him before saying if he'll play in Edmonton.

Zadorov was on oversold flight back to BUF from the DR and Nolan said #Sabres probably could have done better job to stay in touch with him.

Nolan re Zadorov: "You can't put the blame on a 19-year-old kid sometimes. We've got to take a little bit of responsibility also." #Sabres
