Hey, go ahead and build your team off of +/-. I don't care.

If you think Hickey is better than leddy because +/- tells you so, that's fine.

Read above.

Like most "terrible stats", the problem isn't the actual stat, but the terrible interpretations of it.

You just made my point for me. You admit the system (in your opinion lack of) is the problem. You admit the Coach and GM is the problem. Then you go right back to blaming Leddy.

The system, or lack thereof, is a TEAM problem, yes - but when watching Leddy not hustle, not tie his guy up in front of the net allowing 2, 3 or 4 whacks at the puck before taking action, never being physical to close off an on-rushing attack, etc., one can see it doesn't matter what system is or is not in place - he is playing lazily/poorly, and the +/- is reflective of that.

The two issues - lack of good coaching/bad defensive system and passengers not playing hard or hustling - are not completely mutually exclusive, but can be distinctly separated, and in Leddy's case, most of his poor play this season has not been driven by the team's defensive system. IMO, if he was inserted into the 2009 Bruins defensive corps he'd still have a bad goals against.

Theres a reason Leddy's +/- is almost 20 lower than the next Islander in Lee. And it isnt just because its a 'junk' stat

Agreed, and this is the crux of the issue, as other players on the team are obviously participating within the same system, and his d-partners have been rotated but only he has this horrendous minus number. That no other NYI player is close to his stat, and several other players are close to his TOI, it shows how much worse he's played than anyone else.

He’s really missed having de Haan take the tougher defensive matchups.

NYI will be in the thick of things for a top LHD defenseman this summer. Leddy is good when deployed correctly, which means not facing opponents’ top lines every night.

Realistically they should add someone like OEL and bring back de Haan and give Leddy the easiest assignments of the three, but we’re talking about the Islanders here.

Those home numbers can't be right, we already admitted that Doug Weight is elite at coaching.

Played only 15 minutes tonight at home, still got -2 ..... nuts.
Fewest minutes of d-men vs Panthers, yet the worst +/-

His +/- at home is now -34, which is the worst in the history of the NHL
by any position.
