Understanding the inevitable implosion that is Washington Capitals playoff hockey, what is Backstrom worth at the draft?

CAR, ARZ, BUF, MTL off the top of my head could use him.

Price would be young C or D coupled with a 2018 first.

The Caps will need cap room, so this doesn’t really accomplish that.

He would be a good pick up for the Blues and Leafs.

Not sure what the Blues would give up. But if I’m the Leafs I offer Marner+

Matthews, Backstrom, Nylander, Kadri and JVR upfront would be something. Matthews can carry his own line, Backstrom+Nylander would be an unreal second line

Blues would definitely be in but not sure value wise. Would definitely give up at least one of our big prospects and a combo of picks and lesser prospects/salary roster player.

Like Thomas + Sobotka + Blais + picks which hurts but I think appeals to Caps

But I’m not sure I want DA trading with the caps we know how that turns out for the Blues.

Could retain stastny with that move, leaving us Backstrom Schenn and Stastny down the middle.

Fabbri Backstrom Tarasenko (drool)
Schwartz Schenn ELC RW
Steen Stastny elc rw
Plug plug plug
Plug plug

(Sanford berglund Jaskin barbashev Brodziak Kostin Thompson Kyrou or rw trade)

That’s a win now move. Would rather dream of Tavares and keep our assets

The more I consider it we are in desperate need of an NHL ready scoring top 6 RW. Sure we have some great prospects up and coming but we can’t fill out a top 6 without one. Would love to find that guy sooner than later it’s a lot to beg of our prospects to come in and be 20 goal scorers as rookies. Otherwise we are looking at 3/4 years down the road for our real contender status.

what are the Caps looking for in the way of position players....as a Canes fan of course interested.

Guess I'm starting at Lindholm+Fleury/McKeown/Bean and a 1st?

Replacement Center.
Young cost controlled D with 1st pair potential.
High end prospect
1st

I think that's about the size of the package. It's a lot but top centers are never available and Backstrom is under contract for 2 more years.

What are the Sharks planning as far as life after Thornton?

This is what I was hoping to see. I would consider this for The package including Fleury.

Try your top 2 NHL ready prospects, at least one 1st round pick and then some. Backstrom is on a sweet deal for the next two seasons and won't come cheap.

the heck is going on here? why are the caps trading all their players?

They lost a game. They have 2 rookies on defense. Even though they are in 1st place we all know they are doomed.
If the Caps are going to trade Backstrom, Carlson and Holtby, lets go ahead and sell high on Ovechkin.
The Caps can make history as the only division leading team choosing to tank

The Blues should be all over this

Schwartz - Backstrom - Tarasenko
Sobotka - Schenn - Steen

Barbashev, Prospect, 1st?

Don't have a center or defenceman to offer and won`t be trading the 1st rd pick . You can take Montreal off the list of teams being interested.
