Easy to see why ABC had no interest in airing Van/Edm. Ratings have been horrendous all series long. Tough blow to the league that one of them has to be in the WCF. TNT will get terrible numbers for that too.

West coast games in general, are lower than East cost games, just because they don’t start until 10 or later usually, unless a central matchup.
Their numbers are good in Canada.
But ya it’s 2 Canadian teams on OTA in the States.

It’s like expecting an LA Dallas, game on OTA in Canada to do better than a Canadian matchup on cable.

Too bad next weekend is Memorial Day weekend. Most people will be out and about. Very few will be sitting at home during the day waiting to watch an ice hockey game.

Stuff like that gets a bit overstated. Last year Sunday of Memorial Day weekend the Indy 500 peaked at 5.8M viewers during the equivalent time of what will be the end of the 1st period of the ECF next Sunday.

At the same time the ECF starts next Sunday, last year at that time slot a PGA Tour event did 1.9M, starting 90 min later -would be middle of ECF- the Senior PGA Championship did 1.4M. That night Sunday Night Baseball did 1.5M.

In other words, people still watch sports Memorial Day weekend.

It's best to ignore him, as he craves attention. NBT has never said one positive thing about the NHL in his 14 years here.

My guess would have to either be the 1986 or 1989 Stanley Cup Finals between Calgary and Montreal. It could also have been Game 7, of the Toronto vs Montreal series in 2021.
I was curious so I took a look at some other all-Canada games in the US:

2022 Edmonton @ Calgary R2 G5 - 1.169M

2021 Montreal @ Winnipeg R2 G4 - 868k
2021 Montreal @ Toronto R1 G7 - 507k (G5: 544k, G6: 534k)
2021 Edmonton @ Winnipeg R1 G4 - 308k (G3: 407k)

2015 Montreal @ Ottawa R1 G6 - 971k
2015 Vancouver @ Calgary R1 G6 - 444k

2013 Ottawa @ Montreal R1 G5 - 278k

I can see that in America, but in Canada, there is little chance the battle of Alberta would even come remotely close to Game 7, featuring the two largest cities in Canada. I found out that the 2021 Montreal-Toronto Game 7 attracted 7.4 million viewers in Canada, which is the second most watched NHL game in Canadian history, trailing the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals Game 7 between Vancouver and Boston.

It wouldn't be 1989.

1986 ESPN, even with the climate of cable at the time and the roughly 37 million homes they were in, were doing good [cable] #'s for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Well up from USA. In my file I have Game 6 of CGY-EDM at a 2.7 rating (just under a million homes) and Game 7 at 2.5. Surely the #'s went up for conference finals and SCF.

1994 Canucks-Leafs came to mind, also. That timeframe is when NHL in U.S. as well as NHL on ESPN shot up in popularity. Even all my friends who didn't watch hockey were watching VAN-TOR & NJD-NYR every other night, respectively. Though here, the weekend game of that series was the one game of that series to be on espn2.

It makes me think Game 2 or Game 5 of the '86 SCF is possibly the true answer but on-record is likely 2022 CGY-EDM Game 5, pending last night & Monday night.

The question has already been answered.

The most viewed NHL game of all-time is Game 7 of the Boston-Vancouver SCF in 2011. 9,690,000 viewers tuned in to the game. The second most watched NHL game ever recorded was in 2021, with Game 7 of the Toronto-Montreal playoff series pulling in 7,400,000 viewers.

The Game 5 Calgary vs Edmonton game in 2022 probably does not even finish in the top 100 most watched NHL games. In fact, all 7 games of the Toronto-Montreal series outdrew game 5 of the battle of Alberta.

There are only 4.8 million Albertans. On top of Ontario-Quebec having over 25 million people, most of the Maritimes and a vocal minority of fans in other markets still cheer for the Habs and Leafs, as they were 2 of the original six.

Nope. Wrong again. 2021 TOR/MON game 7 averaged 4.8 million viewers.

Actually second most watched was 2011 as well, just game 6 of final.
The question was Canada’s numbers in US I thought, not Canada in Canada.

So a 1.2M would do it at least for the modern era and it very posible even at 9PM east coast.
