2.13M for Clark's debut (<-edit to add the 13k ESPND # / 2.12M on espn2)

1.99M for FLA-BOS

FLA-BOS was ahead in the 18-49 demo for those that value that.

Good for WNBA, first regular season, playoffs or WNBA Finals game to break 1.0M average viewership since 2008.

FWIW, through the FLA-BOS #, the NHL has 37 (38 including ASG) games over 1.0M avg viewership in the U.S., just this season.

Clark's first pro game was going to have great
ratings. First WNBA game with over 1 million viewers in 16 years. The women's NCAA final also out drew the NBA finals and MLB World Series from last year primarily thanks to her. The NHL already has 38 games with over 1 million viewers this year alone that was just posted here. Good for her and the WNBA. The NHL will somehow survive this. :)

A game 5 got out beat by the wnba. I marking this one on the calendar

Absolutely embarrassing look for the nhl.

Caitlin Clark is the biggest star in sports right now. No shame in her game outrating BOS/FLA. The gap would’ve been worse if the Pacers weren’t playing at the same time.

NBA got 4.88M for Knicks v Pacers
NHL got 1.99M for Bruins v Panthers

It's clear the WNBA game audience isn't coming from the usual spots. It's different.

And also the NHL could get a game 7 for Canucks v Oilers on ESPN after a game from the Indiana Fever so that could be intresting to see ratings wise.

Ratings for other sports are supposed to go in the "TV ratings for sports other than hockey" thread but as we can see there's an interest.

So here's the final stats (ESPN & espn2 #'s only) for those H2H's:

Early windows: BOS-FLA v. Clark
Late windows: All-Canadian matchup v. 2x defending WNBA Champs w/'star' player

-18-49 demo-
BOS-FLA beat Clark 0.58 to 0.48
VAN-EDM beat 2x defending champs 0.34 to 0.10

-Avg viewership-
Clark beat BOS-FLA 2.117M to 1.988M (difference of 129k)
VAN-EDM beat 2x defending champs 989k to 464k (difference of 525k)

-Combined viewership-
2 Stanley Cup Playoff games: 2.977M
2 hyped WNBA debut/opening games: 2.581M

Why shouldn’t a 100 year old major league get dunked on when a wnba game on espn 2 beats them out?
Oh, so you havent been paying attention to how popular Caitlynn Clark is?

Did you dunk on NCAA men's basketball for Clark having a higher rated championship game than the men?

Its just like when you and the typing brick tried to dunk on the NHL for getting beat by the womens hockey league after one game.

Context, nuance, and critical thinking is completely lost on you. Im surprised you havent been EddyGee'd out of the thread by now

Welp all the talk is now out of the way. The NHL lost their ABC spot to the NBA.

Essentially a swap of ABC/ESPN NHL/NBA slots. Which obviously makes sense.

Lot of talk about "NHL lost ABC spot they contractually had" in replies which I don't believe is accurate. I don't think ESPN is contractually obligated to put *any* Stanley Cup Playoff games on ABC other than the SCF in years they have the SCF.

How is this surprising? ABC will pass on an all Canadian match-up for NBA playoffs anytime. Pretty sure Disney is still thrilled with the NHL ratings and I would not read too much into this.

Live sports is what keeps Live TV alive and the NHL (along with the NBA) usually command sports fans attention from April to June and NHL's next US TV contract should be even higher than this one.

Eastern Conference Final Game 3 will be next Sunday 3pmET on ABC (Sunday OTA! that I'm always going on about) ... Potential Game 6 Saturday night on ABC:

Too bad next weekend is Memorial Day weekend. Most people will be out and about. Very few will be sitting at home during the day waiting to watch an ice hockey game.
