Numbers keep looking good not sure how much but a small bit watched the start of Predators - Canucks on ESPN News

We won't see any numbers since ESPNEWS isn't Nielsen rated. Funny history there since it was for a long time, then it wasn't, then it was again and now not, again.

Similar to NBC era when playoff games were on NHL Network and we wouldn't see any Nielsen numbers.

It’s cause it’s on ESPN2, numbers for game 1 were much higher on ESPN

Game 1 on ESPN also was in a solo time slot, no other game was on thus no split audience. That's as much a factor as any.

ESPN & espn2 are in a similar # of homes, there's the obvious perception of a secondary channel compared to main ESPN which is valid and in general ESPN will have the better number but we've seen two games on at once and espn2 "win" -- such as first night of playoffs last season when Wild-Stars on espn2 did a better # than Kings-Oilers on ESPN in the late games.

That sucks because of how amazing that game was.

Also depends on how you look at it. There was two games on, overlapping.

Last year the Eastern Conference Game 2's that overlapped (7pm & 7:30pmET) on espn2 & ESPN did 649k & 909k, respectively. Combined 1.558M.

This year the EC Game 2's that overlapped (7pm & 7:30pmET) on ESPN & espn2 did 1.054M & 515k, respectively. Combined 1.569M. Slightly up, more people viewing, total. The distribution is just different across the overlapping windows.

I'm pretty sure Altitude is back on every major cable/satellite company except Dish.

I don't believe so.

You may be thinking of the lawsuit they settled a year ago? That didn't include or lead to Altitude being on comcast -- which is the local and regional cable provider for Avs fans.

Then there's the two satellite options, Dish with no Altitude, or DirecTV with Altitude.

Dispute goes outside of Denver and even Colorado, Altitude's reach includes surrounding states so there's a lot of people locally and regionally who would be watching the Avs on Altitude (like the years pre-dispute Utah/SLC hockey fans watched the Avs on Altitude) that instead are watching the national broadcasts.

Mears & Armstrong are calling the Kings-Oilers game from a studio. Which, in the split rights era is interesting, for the playoffs.

They (TNT Sports) did it for the Heritage Classic but that was essentially an added to the schedule throwaway broadcast on TBS.

Still nothing on local markets?

Some NBA local ratings reports are starting to come out. NHL usually after that.

SBJ link isn't posting correctly for some reason but NHL info pulled from it:

"Wild down 14% this season"

For the Capitals: "Sources tell SBJ a coding issue discovered in the middle of the season may have had a significant impact on the audience for NBA and NHL games on the Monumental Sports-owned RSN (perhaps impacting as much as 25% of the subscriber base through Verizon Fios). That may have affected numbers anywhere from 20% to 50% for certain games."

More from that article:

RSN -- Kroenke Sports-owned Altitude -- continues to have distribution issues in the Denver market. A now five-season impasse between Altitude and Comcast, the has left an estimated 57% of Denver without access to Nuggets telecasts (dating back to September 2019).

Sources tell SBJ a coding issue discovered in the middle of the season may have had a significant impact on the audience for NBA and NHL games on the Monumental Sports-owned RSN (perhaps impacting as much as 25% of the subscriber base through Verizon Fios). That may have affected numbers anywhere from 20% to 50% for certain games.

So we now know that over half of the Denver market can't watch the Avs on local tv so their first round numbers are higher on national tv due to that and also a potential explanation on the Caps season high number being 81K and on their last game. Now we wait for the full NHL local numbers.

Expected the Bruins to win the night by more viewers than they did. Wasn’t really a fair fight. B’s game was basically a must win for them and the C’s are the #1 seed and everyone knows they’ll crush Miami. Also doesn’t include TRU TV viewers.

That Kings-Oilers number is pitiful. McDavid does not move the needle in America.

EDIT:
The Celtics did win the night.

With the Celtics, Bruins and Red Sox going head-to-head Wednesday night, Boston sports viewing broke down as follows: Heat-Celtics averaged 307,000 across TNT/truTV (170K) and NBC Sports Boston (137K), Bruins-Maple Leafs drew 300,000 across NESN (188K) and ESPN (112K) and the Red Sox brought up the rear with 59,000 on NESN1.

You would not understand TV ratings to save your life. Yes, we get it. You hate Boston and the Canadian markets. Come up with a new act. Your shtick is getting stale.

FWIW on that Bruins-Celtics debate, I see SMW responded: "Not sure [why they have different numbers,] to be honest. I will say I’m confident in the numbers I posted, though that is not to cast any aspersions on Wyshynski’s reporting."

Wyshynski cited his source as "Nielsen Local Markets."

The only thing confirmed there is that more people in the Boston market watched the Bruins on NESN than watched the Celtics on NBC Sports Boston. That isn't in dispute. How many in Boston watched the respective national broadcasts, differing reports.
