Insider trading. One question is: is the qualifying round the playoffs? It's not the regular season. Special case?

Some coaches, etc., have bonuses for making playoffs.

So they should be able to cross USAUS-Canada border?

it should be a similar exception to a US Based junior team in an all Canadian league that needs a visa for those to attend camps and where the majority of the season is traveling in Quebec or Atlantic Canada.....so yes, once the border reopens without this order from Homeland Security nothing goes forward

Paywall?

Speculation over 7 out-of-playoff-contention teams who might gather, say in September for a few weeks to have structured skates or something. NHLPA buy in required. Might be optional.

Clarification on best of 5 or best of 7 for first two rounds after qualifying round.

No cut down on hub city list yet.

There is lots of talk about the salary cap remaining the same for next season. Can the owners just set the cap at whatever they want or is there some sort of calculation outlined in the CBA?

Sorry if the isn’t the right spot for this question.

There is a default formula to set the cap based on the prior season revenue, however the NHL and PA have the ability to set the cap to whatever number they want so long as both parties agree.

I would add the NHL hasn't released any info on the status of those individual players testing positive. Many seem to want to focus on whether they're asymptomatic or not. Going a step further I would ask how many are actively infected. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if some portion of those players are testing positive for antibodies and have likely already recovered from a past infection.

I've seen on twitter that a number of Canadiens have the virus. Also TML Auston Mathews. And a handful of Penguins players are being held out due to potential exposure.

NHL training camps in U.S. a 'reckless' health risk for players, doctors say

To quote:

"Dr. Swartzberg is among seven infectious disease experts who told TSN in separate phone interviews this week that they disagree with the joint league-union decision to have training camps in cities such as Tampa, Sunrise, Fla., Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Dallas - at a time when the coronavirus is pinballing throughout the region.

Florida has averaged 11,119 new Covid cases per day over the past week, the fastest rate of growth in the U.S. Texas is close behind, averaging 9,079 new daily cases. In Dallas, the county medical examiner’s office has run out of room to place dead bodies awaiting autopsies.

Arizona has become a Covid hotspot after Gov. Doug Ducey in May relaxed stay-at-home orders, while in Nevada, new Covid cases grew at a rate of 3.3 percent for the week ended July 14, or 881 new cases per day. The growth rate for the week ended May 31 was 1.4 percent, or 116 new cases per day.

Dr. Michael Silverman, a London, Ont., infectious disease specialist, said it was "crazy" and "reckless" for the NHL to stage training camps in states where infection rates are rising so rapidly. Dr. Jeffrey Kwong, an epidemiologist from the Dalla Lama School of Public Health in Toronto, called the NHL decision “mindboggling.”"
