It's cute that the NHL calls it "postponing" when these games are clearly being canceled.

Typically they reschedule these events for a later year, to prevent the host city from losing their investment (e.g. Atlanta was supposed to host the 2005 ASG and instead got it in 2008). I'm guessing that's what they mean by "postponing".

What investment will a city lose?

All Star Game should've been cancelled 20 years ago. Just name who the All Stars are. Give them a few days off.

And abolish the outdoor game. It's a disgrace to the sport. Nobody on T.V. cares anymore.
Yikes...

I still like to watch the winter classic on New Year’s Day and I thought the all star game was okay for the parts that I watched. It is one of the few chances you see players relaxed.

Why do you care?

These events aren't about the TV ratings, they're about creating a special event in the city in which they go. When the All Star Game came to Raleigh 10 years ago, the game itself was stupid boring, but the event itself was the week long festival the city and league put on downtown that attracted people from around the state, country, and continent. There were people in my circle of friends who didn't follow hockey, but actually got hyped for the event. It was genuine fun for the region.

And we are scheduled to have the next Stadium Series game. We are expecting that to be an excellent event as well, and people I know who don't follow hockey are already hitting me up (as a season ticket member) for tickets. Just because you personally don't see the hype or see the fun in it anymore doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Always amuses me when I see how frustrated some people get when others are allowed to have a little fun.

The issue is that these outdoor games are awful to play in for the players. They've said as much.

Another problem is fans having issues seeing the ice from that distance.

It almost feels like a mockery of the game.

Cool. Personally I found both events useless as far as viewing entertainment goes. I know the league makes money from those things, but its nothing I can't live without, specially the all star.

Really? Because I have heard the opposite from players.

I have heard the second part though. I didn't go to the stadium series, but I had a few friends go. They ended up having a good time since Minnesota scored quite a few goals, but they did say they didn't get to see much since they were in the nosebleeds. They loved the atmosphere though.

I wondered how a baseball stadium would change the viewing opposed from a football stadium. I've gone to a fair share of Twins' games and sat in about every spot in the Stadium I have felt like even the high up seats you get a great view of the whole field so I think you'll be able to see the hockey game with ease.
