maybe it was a good thing we didnt do anything. The players that were available will not suddenly become untouchable just because the draft is over. And i, as some other people here, believes that the longer this drags out, the more likely are Totonto to give in.

Wouldn't the Leafs say that regardless? Even if they were really close to deal, and the Pens pulled back... why would the Leafs go off saying they were close and bringing down their stock? Kind of like what you say about an ex after they dumped you.. "well i never really liked them anyways".

Bingo. Anyone who listened to JR with Mears a few hours ago knows there's a big difference between what he was saying and what his reddening, constipated face was suggesting.

EDIT: Er, bad example.

Then WTF is the animated talk about, Fitzie trying to convince all of them that the Pens can afford to trade Kunitz?
"What is your problem. We had your damn PF changs for lunch and dinner last night. We are NOT having it again."

Media and whatever teams say to them can't be trusted right now. Trying to get the most leverage as possible.

Oh, I know.

Almost sure it's DP versus Maatta, and JR and Shanny are playing chicken.

As I said, I'm not opposed to Maatta, but it better be a return from Toronto we can't refuse.

I really wonder if the meeting was to buyout Scuds or not. That deadline is soon.

They wouldn't have needed much time to discuss that. Whoever suggested the buyout would have been promptly removed from the organization and escorted away by the police.

Too many morons running this team.

Too many people period, regardless of what you think about their abilities.

If we still had Despres, I'd be willing to move Maatta. It's just really hard to do it right now.

So the Kessel deal didn't happen, and that's fine. But what happened to all these other deals JR was going to do as well?

I'm not watching this team next year if we don't get rid of some of this dead weight.

TORONTO, HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT MAATTA?!?!

That's honestly not terrible for Toronto, in my opinion.

Kessel for Maatta, Kunitz, Scuderi

They want Maatta, they take on some cap dumps.

JVR for Kapanen, Sutter, 1st

Doubt they would want to make this deal, but it's possible Sutter returns a 1st at the deadline, essentially making this three late 1sts for JVR. Still not ideal from their perspective, but the value isn't terrible and that's the cost to get Maatta.

While we've been distracted by Kessel, apparently Calgary was having a debate about dinner orders elsewhere in the room:

Purely speculative, but have heard Hudler’s name this week RT @HalfordPHT: The teams still huddled around their draft tables are PIT and CGY

We still have a few days. I think a lot of fireworks will happen in the NHL prior to the July 1 deadline when players have to submit new no trade clauses for the year.

I definitely not for moving Maatta. But are we sure he's going to return to his former self and keep improving?

We're not, which is why some of us think if Shanny steps up for Maatta the way he expects JR to step up for Kessel, then maybe you've got to think about it.
