Surprised the Oilers aren't higher with their record and wins against Boston, Washington, Nashville, Winnipeg.

It's not just who you beat, but when you beat them. Beating Nashville now is tougher than a couple weeks ago.

I love this thread, one of my favs each year. So far there are some surprises, the teams in red I expect to drop and the teams in green I'd think will rise by mid year with a larger sample size.

NYI lost 3 of their first 5. But after that they accumulated a 6-1-2 record which is pretty impressive. They have slowly climbed up the rankings to where they are now. While TBL has the advantage if I was TBL I wouldn't sleep on the Islanders.

I'm big on waiting until there's a bigger sample size, but it is pretty cool seeing teams like MTL, VAN and NYI up there.

Trotz has never had a terrible team, even when Scott Walker was the best player on the team we still had respectable results. It's a blessing, and a curse....

You get points by beating higher-rated teams if I understand correctly. You guys are at the top so I'm not sure how you collect points lol

Yeah, sucks being so good. Reminds me of a friend of mine in university was an A+ student. She was pretty upset when her over GPA went down after she got an A on a course.

Elo calculates an expected result based on the difference of team scores. More like a probability to win. In this case the that was around 77%. An OT win is scored as 75. So they didn't meet expectations, they missed by 2 points. And lost 2 points.

Had they won in regulation they would have got 100, beat expectations by and earned 23 points.

And if they lost in OT they would lose 52 points. And would have lost 77 points for regulation loss.

And, Elo doesn't know anything about home ice, although there are ways to make the expected points from each game consider that. But the OP here had chosen not to do that.
