Surprisingly according to ELO the highest stakes game of the NFC playoff race next week will be Philly vs New Orleans. Essentially Philly winning would give them a very good shot, them losing puts their season on life support. For New Orleans its knocking a team way down getting back up and having another crucial tiebreaker.

How did this happen with the Eagles? Well, they now have 1 game left that is outside of their division and it’s against the Jets.

God adding a 7th seed was so dumb.

You mean to tell me any of those 5 win teams deserve to be anywhere near the playoff?

Probably gonna be the same situation in the AFC too
The 8th (and probably 9th) seed in the AFC is going to be better than the NFC's 7th seed and maybe even 6th seed if Winston isn't healthy, IMO. The NFC has 5 very good teams and then a bunch of crap right now.

We have our first total elimination scenarios for Detroit. It will take a lot (much more than just a Detroit loss), but Detroit could be officially eliminated by Monday Night. Arizona could add a lot of 1st round bye eliminations, but they are off, so they'll sit on the 1 seed for the week.

Not only does Washington jump into a playoff spot, but they now control their own destiny for the NFC East with two games remaining against the Cowboys. Detroit's elimination scenarios are funky (yes, I cheated on those) but really they'll probably just lose and save everyone the trouble.

Didn't they add a playoff spot because 10-6 team didn't make the playoffs while 7-9 division winner did?

Last year in the AFC, had the Dolphins won their last game, an 11-5 team would’ve missed the playoffs. And that was with 7 spots. Imagine in the previous format if 2 11-5 teams missed the playoffs.

How did this happen with the Eagles? Well, they now have 1 game left that is outside of their division and it’s against the Jets.
Well even though they just lost to the Giants, prior to last week, they had an easy closing schedule. They were 5-6 at the time and would and do have a key tiebreaker vs the Saints. Now that they lost to New York, their chances have diminished hard but they still have a crucial tiebreaker.

If Dallas beats Washington this week, we are down to 0 interesting division races....at least the AFC makes up for that a bit, and 2 games separate seeds 6 through 15 in the race to get pounded by the Bays (or Arizona) in the first round (yes, I know anything can happen, and often does, in the playoffs)

It's really something that teams abhorrent as Atlanta and Carolina are anywhere near the playoff picture

By DVOA i'm pretty sure the Falcons are the worst team in the league and are currently sporting a point differential worse than the Lions.

Turns out there might be two byes in the NFC after all

I believe Tampa and Green Bay can clinch next week. Arizona can end the race from being interesting tonight and Dallas can clinch with two straight wins. The only thing really left to the imagination is seeding and wild card spots.

Packers hold their own destiny for the top nfc seed, and face Baltimore, Cleveland, Minnesota, and Detroit.

I feel like odds for Green Bay finishing top nfc seed at 14-3 are higher than the odds for them not finishing that way.

Baltimore is their best opponent left. Cleveland, yeah right. They already dropped one to Minnesota, and 1-111111111111-1 Detroit.

Dallas just moved to the #2 seed, but in a unique situation. They hold a 3-way tiebreak over Tampa Bay, but not a 2-way tiebreak. And right now, the third team involved in the tiebreak is Arizona, who the Cowboys play, so they’re gonna need some help to not drop to #3. Rams winning out (along with Cowboys winning out), or the Packers losing a game (creating a 3/4 way tie), or Tampa losing again.

Fun fact. If SF, MIN, and PHI win out, and the Rams win their only game that's not against that trio, the 7th seed will come down to strength of victory between Minnesota and Philadelphia. This is why neither Minnesota nor Philadelphia control their own destiny for the last playoff spot. Minnesota currently leads that SoV race .469 - .392 with only the games locked in required to get to that specific tiebreaker in the 7th-8th slot locked in. But the two teams wins are so diverse from each other that Minnesota does NOT have SoV clinched in this case.

AFTER WEEK 15:
(a-eliminated from #1 seed contention, b-eliminated from division contention, x-clinched playoff spot, y-clinched division)
1. y-Green Bay - 11-3

4. Arizona - 10-4 (Holds Division Record tiebreaker over LA Rams)
