The City of Phoenix doesn't have even 2 million people but the metro area is at least 4 million.

Yeah, and metro population is the standard for how large a city is. Unless you think Jacksonville is a larger city than Boston?

Also, it's very rare in sports to see a big pour out at the airport to welcome back a team that was eliminated from the playoffs.

It wasn't a "shot" at Cards fans. I don't have a problem with people from Phoenix (why would I)? But it's kind of laughable to have exactly 2 people welcome a team home after a great season.
