Only guess is, they didnt want to give it to #55 for the fear he barely plays this year.

I like the 1 year Kronner captaincy because 1) I hate no captain teams, 2) He's a lifelong Red Wing who was a pivotal member of a cup team, but like Ozzie, won't make the Hall so won't get his number retired. It's a nice way to honor his contribution and also end the era with him having a victory lap... even if he's injured most of the year. He'll be the guy who can handle the media, etc. instead of Z in the face of what will be a difficult season. And then next year I'm all over Larkin from Yzerman or whatever.

If Larkin is going to be named captain, I vote they rename the title to Dungeon Master.
