Oshie is literally the perfect player, but I don't even want to think about what kind of crazy money we'd have to offer to get him here.

Imagine this team adding a skilled winger who plays an edgy physical game and is also a shootout specialist. Le sigh...

The guy is 30 and someone is going to give him 7M for 7 years. I don't want any part of that contract for him. Love to have him, but he is going to be very overpaid very soon. No way GMRF touches him on July 1st.

I completely agree, someone's going to go nuts trying to get him and he's not the kind of player you want to be saddled with at $6M+ when he's in his late 30s.

I wouldn't even mind overpaying in the short term, if it meant we could get him for 3 years. But he's likely to start breaking down before too long.

If we talk about realistic options, i'd love Bonino and Hagelin. Not world beaters but they are useful two-way players.

I think Hagelin would fit well with this team. I'm less sold on Bonino. He's big, but the times I've seen him doesn't play big (maybe it's small sample size?)

I've had the same impression. I'm not convinced that he'd be any bit of a physical upgrade on the team other then simply being a good bit harder to knock off the puck then Ryan is. Cullen, who's about the same size, plays a good bit "bigger" IMHO.

May have to start a Slavin drinking thread soon with these awful proposals.

I don't think that one was that awful. It wasn't a 3 nickels for a quarter deal, they were offering up one of their top, young players (Ehlers)+ more. Most of the time, you see proposals where the team asks for a good player, but doesn't give up anything that hurts. That wasn't the case here.

Other than the guy responding saying to replace Ehlers with Connor.

I don't even think it really matters what a team offers, Slavin is about as untouchable as you can get nowadays. Moreso if he's able to keep up even half of his increased offensive production as of late.

Personally ehlers isnt that appealing to me at all that is why i say awful. That not to say he isnt a good player i just would want someone better and plays C if i have to move slavin. And there isnt anything they could add to ehlers to make it better IMO.

Edit: There isnt anything they could realistically add to ehlers to make it better.

Yeah, but even his own fan base said Canes would never go for that or that it would never fetch Slavin. All in all, as trade board threads go, this one was probably one of the better ones in terms of value. Not perfect, but value wasn't off by a lot and it took into consideration team needs.

I don't think either team would do that deal, but it wasn't terrible, at least to me.

It's as reasonable of an offer as you're going to get for a player like that. The problem is both teams are dealing from their "untouchables" list, so nobody is going to agree to something like that.

Yeah, I can understand that, I just don't think it was awful, but each to his own. Like I said, usually fans offer stuff that doesn't hurt. The Jets are very high on Ehlers and we're talking about a 21 year old that just put up 25G, and 64 points in his 2nd NHL season. It was at least an attempt at trying to provide fair value.

Again, I think both teams view the players as pretty much untouchable so don't see it happening.

Carl Hagelin would be an insanely good add for this team with the emphasis we put on skating and defensive awareness. He's a game changing penalty killer as well, which would help ameliorate the loss of Stalberg if he ends up elsewhere. With how strong this team projects to be at breaking out of the defensive zone, having someone to stretch the ice like Hagelin can would be big.

All said and done if we have to move slavin, for me is has to be a one to one deal for someone of the likes Draisaitl, Schiefliefe, Mackinnon and similar to that. Not any of this pretty good player plus a couple of semi valuable pieces.

The thought of Hagelin racing to grab Slavin's drop shot clears kinda makes me think he should be the #1 UFA target.

I don't disagree (and don't think Slavin will be moved any time soon), but I think you calling Ehlers a "pretty good player" is discounting him a bit, even if you aren't a big fan of his. At 21 years old, he's the 26th best scoring forward in the NHL right now, ahead of Skinner, E. Staal, Marner, Gaudreau, Cam Atkinson, Nylander, Forsberg, Monahan, etc...

Hagelin isn't UFA though, not for another 2 years.

Now if the Pens wanted to move him as a cap dump I'm ALL ears.

Ahh whoops, thought time had gone faster than it has. Cap dump would be fine with me as well.

WPG has every right to kill you if you go suggesting them moving a 8 x $6,125,000 80-points 24-y.o. 1C who negotiates a goddamn NTC for himself whilst in Winnipeg.

Hagelin for a 2nd if they was wanting to dump him. That would be good, and Bones as a UFA.

It makes you wonder what the plan is going for next season.

I was bored and decided to look at Canes fighting stats. So Canes have had all of 6 fighting majors this season, which is good for the least amount of fighting majors in NHL, and might be a record? 2nd to last is the Penguins with 12. I actually thought fighting was severely down this season, I guess due to watching the Canes all season. But it's actually slightly up, the Ducks have the most with 46 this season, and I'm a bit lazy to do the math, but the average this season seems to be about 23 or so fighting majors per team.

Out of those 6 fights according to hockeyfights.com, one was a draw, the other 5 were losses for the Canes fighters. We are a tough team lol

Also thought this was fun, so here are the players that fought the most in a Canes uniform and how many fights they had.

1. Jesse Boulerice 36
2. Tim Gleason 36
3. Craig Adams 27
4. Darren Langdon 24
5. Stu Grimson 22
6. Jay Harrison 21
7. Wade Brookbank 18
8. Tim Conboy 16
9. Mike Commodore 15
10. Brad Malone 15
