Per Chip's tweets.

Tim Gleason on ice at PNC Arena but not in uniform. Looks like advisory role. Will check later.

Peters says Gleason will work with defenseman

Gleason role still to be defined. He says GM Ron Francis offered opportunity to stay involved and he wants to.

This team is way too predictable.

****. We gotta stop that ****. It's clearly not working

While I do agree it's a bit ridiculous how many ex-Canes land here, I would also say that it's not a huge contributor (if any at all) to what is and isn't working. The Canes aren't working because they have a poorly constructed line-up which lacks skill/ability and has no depth.

This is almost 100% attributable to how JR (and PK) built this team over the past years. Poor drafting, poor developing, no vision, poor asset/draft pick management, poor contract signings, etc... etc...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that having Whitney, Stillman, Wesley, Brindy, etc..etc.. on the payroll is making things better or a good move, I just don't think it has much impact (positive or negative) at this point.

That is true, too bad they don't have w competent goaltender either. I guess that's why you throw darts at em in the draft every year though until you hit on 1.

Yep, and I think that's the approach RF (and even JR for a few years before he left) has been taking.

2010: Anderson
2011: Mahalak
2012: Olson and Altshuller
2013: (none, but they only had 4 picks that year)
2014: Ned
2015: Booth.

6 goalies in 6 years compared to only 3 drafted in the 7 years prior to that (2003 through 2009).

To me it sends the wrong message though. This isn't a hockey organization. It's a retirement home for guys who played for us for however long. It's an easy, feel good model and not one that challenges the system to bring about change. This is all these guys know.

Possibly, but on the other hand it's better to have an embedded culture than not. Even if it's a culture that isn't working. Especially when it comes to attracting free agents, grooming rookies, making coaches feel at home, stuff like that.

The worst thing you can have is an organization where people get out as fast as possible and never come back.

My question is, are they here because they want to make the Hurricanes better or because they have a house in Raleigh and it's an easy paycheck? I'm not sure the answer but it's becoming absurd at this rate

I don't want to bother to look now, but I think most organizations retain players in supplementary positions. I don't think the canes are too out of whack.

Lol at Gleason tho.

Of course they retain players but I would bet we are proportionately above the average. At least top 10

Canes have the following ex-Cane/Whaler players in roles:

Francis: GM
Vellucci: Assistant GM(played 1 year for the Whalers)
Brindy: Assistant Coach
Wesley: Player Development
Stillman: Player Development
Whitney: Scout
Kron: Scout
Samsonov: Scout
Daniels: Scout
Willis: Youth and Amateur (doesn't really have a say in the NHL team so not really the same)

Am I missing anyone?

The Canes do it more than most, but a quick search of some of the better teams in the league shows 7 former Kings working for LA, 6former Bruins for Boston, 7 in Colorado. Tampa has at least 6 guys who played with Yzerman on their staff and someone else named Yzerman (brother maybe)?

This exactly. It's like the Oilers did for many years.

I hope they had to walk.

Honestly is there anything worth salvaging from this team besides Faulk and Hanifin? I'm not sure if Lindholm or Skinner or Rask are the guys to build your team around up front.

Just a said state of affairs for this team.
