Not too much new or unexpected here, but if anybody had any doubts that Aho signing the offersheet was simply a way to short circuit the negotiation process, this should put that to bed. Although people will interpret it how they see fit and that's fine. With most of the other RFAs not signed, he was right. Also, this is the first time I saw Aho basically say that what his agent said (when he said Aho 100% wants to play in Montreal) weren't his (Aho's) words at all. Another part I loved, although it might all be BS, is that he signed it, went to bed like it was no big deal, woke up and heard the Canes were matching, which in his own words: "Everyone knew pretty much what was going to happen.”

He also finally admitted that he was playing "with an ailment" in the playoffs. A lot of guys are though so hard to determine how much it affected him, but he did look different at the end of the season.

Some content/quotes from the article.

Like other restricted free-agent forward in the NHL — Toronto’s Mitch Marner and Winnipeg’s Patrik Laine, to name two — Aho might be still be unsigned, still sitting out, wondering when he’d be joining his teammates.

“You never know but watching those other guys, there’s a pretty good chance,” Aho said in an N&O interview on Tuesday. “That was a pretty big reason why I did it,” Aho said. “I wanted to start the season on time and it’s pretty good to be here right now with the guys. You don’t have to stress or anything. You’re here.”

Aho said he talked with Dundon on July 2, adding: “I’m happy it went down pretty quickly. It was one day and everything was back to normal, I guess. There was a lot less drama than media (reports). Everyone knew pretty much what was going to happen.”

That Johannson made his comments to Marc Antoine Godin of The Athletic after the offer sheet was tendered made little sense. The terms of the contract were set once Aho signed the offer sheet. If anything, Johannson’s comments could have poisoned the water a bit for Aho with some Canes fans. Does Aho really want to play for the Canadiens?

“Those weren’t my comments, so I’d rather not comment on it,” Aho said Tuesday. “I’ve said probably a hundred times already what I think about the situation. That’s not what I was saying.”

Aho, used at center by Brind’Amour, had a career-high 30 goals and 83 points in 82 games last season, and was named an NHL All-Star, as Carolina surged into the Stanley Cup playoffs and reached the Eastern Conference finals. Conceding he was ailing a bit in the playoffs without disclosing the injury, Aho had five goals and seven assists in the 15 games.

“There was no time to think about it and playing in front of such awesome crowds gives you so much energy,” he said.

Aho said he worked even harder this summer than in past years in conditioning, beginning his skating in June rather than July, determined to make his fourth NHL season better than the first three.

Re: Johannson's comments to Bergevin, I repeat what I said then that that is how I knowingly BS:

- It is my personal understanding that A is thinking X. He wouldn't have done Y if he isn't.

I may actually be pretty sure that A isn't thinking X, but you can't effectively question my plausible deniability for misinterpeting the Y to mean its logical premise X.

I'm not like tag-teaming with A here or anything, honest!

I admire Aho so much. He could have had 10 or 11 million if he wanted. He left more money than I could imagine on the table. He didn't let this drag out so he would miss any time in camp. He isn't a distraction because this happened in July. And now hearing him saying that he's working harder than ever says a lot about a man who already made his bread. If he improves like Tuevo did after his contract we would have a top 10 player in the league or close to it. It truly helps me understand what it really means to be a team player and a leader and I glad he plays for our team.

He is truly a great player and a great person. In Finland he is seen as a potential future captain for the national team. He might be quiet or soft-spoken but who needs to talk when you can do. That's the Finnish mentality.

Everyone knows Sebastian is talented and he thinks of the game on an elite level. What truly surprised me was looking at his highlights and seeing how he is starting to dominate puckbattles in the corners as a 20 something. You can see from the pictures he is jacked (no offense Teuvo) and he has always had strong lower body. If he stays healthy I expect him to continue progressing both performance and stats wise.

Yeah yeah, I know this reeks of fanboyism. I don't care, what else is better than drinking Bourbon whisky and watching Aho highlights during the dark Finnish fall nights.

Yeah this doesn't make sense. Is he going to sit out the season as a Canes RFA waiting for call, as a tweener in his watershed years without playing hockey?

He should be a Karpat man, but with Pulju signing I don't think Karpat has room in budget. There's no reports of any Liiga team signing him...

Is he going to sign with Karpat (or Canes) after we find out if Puljujarvi gets traded (and signed) to CAR, or is he waiting some other trade situation (Faulk...) to clear out?

I have a hard time mustering up much of a give a damn about Saku. If he comes back, cool, if not, cool.

I like Saku and thought he has 3rd line potential, but he was lining up to be the 13th forward on this team (14th if the rumors regarding Faulk come true).

Him not being here may actually give guys like Geekie, Kuokkanen, Gauthier, etc., a little more motivation since it breaks up the logjam a bit.

I can't pronounce drainage divide.

But it is funny word, and he is much like an over-aged pool boy when there is a poolparty going on and the girls are having mohitos with the young jocks and he's lurking around the shed of... pool thingamajigs.

It was an old meme on the boards, might’ve died by 2014. Tripp’s fault.

A few days old but I don't think it's been posted yet.

Canes are moving to all-mobile ticketing this season, eliminating paper tickets.

Note: This does NOT mean using the STM card instead of tickets. The STM card no longer has anything but your discount code.

It means everything goes through your phone, using tap technology at the gate. Paper tickets are still available in theory, but you have to request them to be delivered (somehow) in advance.

Hurricanes tickets going all-mobile this season

Noteworthy that this information has not actually been announcecd yet, other than confirming for this article, as we are now 5 days from the first game.
