I hope Dundon isn't like a couple bosses I've had in the past. Would say this quote and fire the person tomorrow with no remorse.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the idea of the "boss who gives you a year notice before firing you with cause" is a total fiction and a sucker's bet.

If someone like Tom Dundon thinks you are a problem in his organization and that it's in the best interest of his half-billion dollar investment to see you on the curb with your **** in a cardboard box, he is most definitely NOT going to give you a year's notice.

One thing I do like about Waddell is that he was always outside the arena before games and walked around the 2nd level during intermissions. He would usually give people a few seconds if he had them to receive feedback on the team or arena. He is a lot more personable and approachable than Francis or JR ever were.

I feel like we can’t really afford to let Waddell leave after so much of the front office was raided within the past year. We operate on the “GM by committee” model but how much of the committee is left at this point? We’ve commented that the departures are largely holdovers from the Pre-Dundon era, but they haven’t been backfilled as far as I can tell. That’s the part that worries me. Keeping the figure-head GM in place maintains a level of continuity when you replace the “committee”. Not keeping him could lead to completely different group dynamics that we shouldn’t have to deal with after one year

welp

looks like the move from the organ to the DJ is now permanent in the arena

Carolina Hurricanes Organ

$8k price tag, too

Thats too bad but not surprising. Didn't seem like the organ was getting much use lately.

As for the DJ, the music is getting better but still needs work. Pop shit like Chris Brown, Britney, Miley, Shawn Mendes, and Selena Gomez needs to go (also f*** Chris Brown). Poison by Bell Biv Devoe needs to go. I don't mind some rap like Nelly or Ludacris but shit like Soulja Boy needs to go.

More high energy/Rock and less Club/Dance.

Even before he was the GM yeah I saw him out in the concourse and with the tailgaters and he seemed very appreciative of everyone who was there.

This largely sums up my feelings too and is a reason why I'm annoyed with Dundon right now. We don't need for this to turn into a revolving door every year. Just pay Waddell and be done with it, and if it isn't working 3 years from now then cut bait. But right now as you said, continuity is a must.

I'm only worried about losing Waddell as GM because we saw last season that Dundon had trouble finding someone who would act as the point of contact for the committee. Certainly can't have multiple members taking calls from opposing GMs. Will Dundon go back to trying to poach an assistant GM? Will he try to bring an unemployed GM into this figurehead spot (Hextall or Chiarelli with Borg guardrails)?

All that said, there will also be a need for a new team president. And I think Waddell has done well in that job, as concerned as many of us were at the time he was hired. He did well in that role for Karmanos before Dundon came in. Has Dundon taken over most of that team president role now? I don't think Dundon is doing a lot of day-to-day management of the team operations, but I could be mistaken.

At a minimum, pay Waddell like he's filling two roles in the franchise. Because he is.

Waddell should just quit hockey and open a PR firm. From moron GM that turned everything he touched to crap that was only brought in to move the team, to indispensable team builder and keen business mind.
