Speculation: New jersey #s

I'm usually pretty good at this. I'm going to take a stab at what numbers I think Michael Frolik and Dougie Hamilton will wear. I also think a handful of Flames prospects will be changing numbers next season. Keep in mind that Brian Burke has a strict 39 and under jersey # policy in place for the Flames.

#03 Hamilton
#10 Bouma
#16 Jooris
#17 Frolik
#20 Granlund
#27 Ferland
#39 Bennett

Actually, Burke's policy is 35 and under. If he allows Bennett to wear 39, it will be a sign that he's broadening that policy, or else making an exception.

Elsewhere on this board, I posted:

Bennett #10
Jooris #16
Ferland #28
Hamilton #27

But that was before the Frolik signing. Hamilton to #3 would not necessarily surprise me, in which case I would expect Frolik to take #27. Otherwise, he can have #20. I don't personally see Granlund making the team out of camp, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's still #60.

I hope Burkes rule doesn't prevent Bennett from wearing 39, it's a difference of 4 numbers. He's also a potential franchise player, I just don't see what should be a big deal.

people have said it is under 40 now.

I'd say....

Bennett - 39
Bouma - 10 (from 17)
Frolik - 17
Hamilton - 27
Jooris - 16
Ferland - 28 or 33

Who are 'people'?

Only thing I've seen is the original quote where he said 1-35.

If I google "Burke jersey numbers," the only result that says anything about 1-40 is a random suggestion from a CP poster.
I've seen a few posters say it here and there. They could be full of it, but the Devils use the under 40, so it's not a stretch to think it would be amended.

I like this. I can't see Ferdaddy wearing 33, though. That's a goalie number and would be ugly on a regular skater, IMHO. 28 would be a great number for him though, IMO. IIRC, I gave him 28 or 18 (after Stajan) in my NHL 14 Be a GM.

33 is a good number for skaters, Roy just made some think of goalies with it. Oliwa and Prust also wore is for the Flames.

I don't see Bouma having to switch numbers for Frolik since Bouma had his first. Personally I see

Ferland - 10
Bennett - 39
Hamilton - 27 (but I would prefer him at 3)
Frolik - 37 (27 if dougie is at 3)
Jooris - 16

it's not "for Frolik" it's the opportunity to have the #10 he wore in Junior.
And Ortio is 37

Ah ok I didn't know Bouma wore 10 in junior, thanks for clarification so just to make sure the numbers available for players now if Burke was nice about his policy

Forgot about Oliwa, and I had that 2003-2004 lineup poster on my wall all through high school and until I moved out of my parents place. Looking at the list of players to wear #33, Aucoin and The Anton also wore it for Calgary. You're right though, it is a skater number (the only other goalies aside from Roy that I recognized wearing it was Noodles and Sean Burke), but I stand by my statement since it does remind me so much of Roy and my preference for #28.

I think we could see Morrison or Nakladal wear #3, no real reason, just a gut feeling.

Nah Commodore wore #2. Al didn't want his # retired by the Flames.

The Flames aren't going to retire any numbers except #12 and #34 when the time comes for those to go up. They're going to honour numbers like Al's #2 and Nieuwendyk's #25 instead of outright retiring them. My guess is Gary Roberts' #10 is next for a "Forever a Flame" type of ceremony. Al also works for the Blues organization, so that's part of the reason his number hasn't been outright retired, IIRC.
