I haven't liked anything about Elias this year. His attitude and play have really been a disappointment. I'm not looking forward to another year of him. I wouldn't be upset he was traded at the deadline, to be perfectly honest. I think there would still be a demand for him if he was put on the block.

We still need players of NHL caliber and Elias has more than enough currency with this organization that he should be given a pass for his pathetic performance this season, so I think he should stay and then we can re-evaluate after next year.

I'm sorry man...Zajac on the point, 3 defenseman playing 27 or more minutes in regulation(I understand Harrold was injured) some of the line combo's, Gionta, Bernier and Tootoo seeing Power play time ...

That **** is bush league....

If DeBoer did any of this **** this place would be a zoo....freakin Zidlicky played almost 28 minutes tonight.

Harrold getting hurt in the first ten minutes was going to jack up the icetime of the defensemen period. I don't understand why Zidlicky got 28 minutes and Greene 20 though, that's a bit mind-boggling unless we're just trying to up trade value.

Zajac being on the point while Elias was taking the crucial opening draw of the late third period power play was ridiculous. Then again Oates' whole management of the PP makes me remember why I wasn't too keen on him as an assistant in the first place.

I'm a bit biased( :sarcasm: ) but......I agree.

He has been very mediocre(at best) this season but I still don't want him to be anywhere except in a Devils jersey.

The kids aren't being punished like they were under DeBoer.

At this point, with the season a total loss, this is the only thing I care about.

Larsson was extremely solid tonight, Kinkaid played very well, and I saw a lot I liked out of Merrill too.

I am officially rooting against winning. Its the best for the team at this point. Play the youngsters, develop and lets move on to next year. hoping for a chance at McEichel

With Marty having played somewhere else now, I have no sentimentality to seeing Elias being a career long Devil. I would still keep him into next year though, unless he wants out before that.

Meh. The guy has been the one consistent rock for this franchise under some trying conditions. I give him a pass for this season.

Pretty much how I feel as well. I just really doubt whether the return would be worth moving him. I don't think you're getting a 1st rounder for him or Jagr at this point in their careers. Plus we are still going to need players next year. I'd rather keep any potential free agent signings to a minimum.

i think its all case by case here... truthfully if they are serious about rebuilding its more than a one year process... so sucking next year as well is reality. elias is already under contract as you state, maybe focusing on the getting return on the guys with 1 year deals...none of which are worth re-signing.

The Elias, Havlot pairing has glimmers of hope once in awhile but not enough to get excited about. They do seem to read eachother on some weird level but no productions. Adios amigos if you ask me. ( to both of them )

Larsson played well and got the minutes he deserved and we were able to continue our quest for a top pick with another loss.

I can't complain

Nobody deserves anything and if you've followed this organization long enough you'd pretty quickly understand that nothing is handed to anybody

You earn your way

Larsson has played well especially on the PK of late and he earned playing on the top pair tonight as a result of his play and Lou pretty explicitly says as much.

Lamoriello said it was Stevens' decision to put Larsson with Greene.

“That's what Scotty felt was the best in reference to playing against the top line,” Lamoriello said. “Adam's been playing extremely well. They're killing penalties together and you try to keep a consistency in what you're doing.”

Why even bring attention to it? You and I both know people were literally criticizing everything Pete did from the suits he wore to the way he stood on the bench just to criticize him for something because everybody else was.

I think the "criticism" on what he wore and how he stood on the bench was a bit tongue-in-cheek. Just saying.... :dunno:

It was his coaching overall that wasn't up-to-snuff(or whatever that saying is).

Either way, Pete is gone. I see no reason to even give that clown another single thought, imo.

I do wish him luck in whatever other coaching opportunities(if any) he'll get, though. He'll need that luck.

Wingman77, thanks for the quotes from Lou about it being Stevens' decision to have Larsson on the PK. It's nice that his hard work there is being noticed and rewarded. It could help Larsson's development if he can see signs of Stevens' faith in him. He seemed to do best under Robinson who appeared to have a good amount of trust in him. I really want all our young players to succeed. Seeing them grow is the most (and often only) satisfying thing about this season.

Glenwo2, you sum up my thoughts about Pete pretty well. When he was here, I had my criticisms about him, which I think I articulated in my short time here, but now that Pete's gone, I do wish him the best (except if he ever coaches against the Devils). He did seem like a decent enough fellow even if he didn't work out with this team, so I certainly don't wish ill on him, or feel the need to devote a lot of brainpower to contemplating him now that he's gone.

If you go down a defenseman, you can't continue to burry Helgeson (11 minutes) and pretty much just use 3...I don't know what was going on there, maybe Greene was sick or hurting? But you could've easily kept the top 4 in the 23 to 25 range and Helgeson around 15....Especially with back to back games.

This coaching staff strikes me as amateurish in many ways.

I doubt Wingman missed that it was tongue and cheek, you're focusing on something arbitrary. And he's right, the complaints were ridiculous. Deboer was a good coach with a team that wasn't up to snuff. Being at the top of the league in most puck possession stats is pretty impressive, considering the roster he had over the past 3 years. Outside of this forum, no one thinks this team underachieved under him. If anything, they overachieved, like last year. He'll have success on a team that doesn't have a florida-esque roster.

I only focused on that "something arbitrary" because Wingman mentioned it. It's not like I pulled this out of my backside, you know. :dunno:

And he's right, the complaints were ridiculous.

About his wardrobe, the way he acts on the bench, and his facial expressions(or lack thereof)? Yes.

About his overall coaching? No they were completely reasonable, imo. He's not a horrible coach but let's not pretend he was Jacques Lemaire either. He was(at best) an average coach.

Deboer was a good coach with a team that wasn't up to snuff.

Average coach with a team that wasn't up to snuff.

Being at the top of the league in most puck possession stats is pretty impressive, considering the roster he had over the past 3 years.

I won't deny that. His system was pretty effective but in this business, results are the only thing that matters. And when results don't turn out the way that they're expected, it's the coach who takes the fall. Whether it's his coaching, the player's playing(or lack thereof), or a combo of the two, in the end....there was no recourse but to kick Pete to the curb because as it is right now(and going forward) things aren't looking so hot.

Outside of this forum, no one thinks this team underachieved under him. If anything, they overachieved, like last year. He'll have success on a team that doesn't have a florida-esque roster.

The grass is always greener. That saying came to mind when you mentioned that. What did the Florida Panthers fans have to say about him?

But I digress....This thread is not about Pete(there's already a thread for that so...my apologies).
