The lineup doesn't excuse the lack of effort. Devils didn't show up until they were down by three goals. That's not an acceptable effort even if they were all AHL caliber players.
Well, Happy Easter, everyone. Hope this game doesn't ruin it for anybody.
Never said it was an excuse, I'm simply saying that expectations should be more tempered for who we are icing out there each passing game. The discipline in the first was terrible and ruined their early momentum. But we need to keep the whole game in perspective, that's all I'm saying.
I'm already into my second food coma of the day, so I'm good.
The 1st period wasn't exactly a CBJ-like period for us, but it was absolutely the worst non-CBJ period of the month.
It's fair to say we had a period or two worse against Pittsburgh a few weeks back and Anaheim too, but consider the competition here. Carolina (possession stats be damned), is not as good of a team as either of them.
Philly & Det have easy home games Monday night.
On the bright side, Pietila is showing something right now. As he gets more comfortable, we'll see how much more he can give.

Maybe I should put myself in one.
Bingo they know the situation then put in that kind of a showing in with the friggen canes.
It helps. But then again I accepted that we weren't going to make the playoffs a long time ago, so this loss doesn't bother me as much. I'm at the point where I'm looking at the season as a whole, and considering all the injuries we had, it's amazing we're not a bottom 5 team. Which is why I also tend to cut the team some slack with the "lack of effort" criticisms. Overall the team has worked hard this season. If we can just add more skill to the lineup, I think good things will happen.

I'm annoyed by that commercial at this point too, just because it's the only commercial they have for Marty. Couldn't they have made a few others? Like one of the 2000 cup? 2003 cup? 2009 record breaking win? Shutout record breaker? All they have is that same one for 95.
I feel like some old nerd because I can't get behind advanced stats, and there's just too damn many of them and a lot of them don't coincide. ''Gionta is one of the worst players in the league'', ''No Gionta isn't that bad actually'' and ''Salvador is terrible and shouldn't be in the league anymore and neither should Zubrus'' and then another advanced stats believer says ''But really Salvador and Zubrus aren't bad players that have no use. Zubrus leads this and that on the team, and Salvador is second among all D men in this stat''
When I see certain advanced stats, I'm not surprised in the least at what I see. There's a lot of stuff that the eyes certainly back up what it says on paper when it comes to advanced stats. But it's because of advanced stats that I think players like Sislo are looked at as not useless. But Jacob Josefson has been a 50%+ corsi player every year of his career so far. But we all know that the untapped potential and offense is not coming from him.
This annoys me, too.
I mean it's to the point where EVERYONE HERE can recite every single word by Marty and Dano in this commercial.
GIVE US SOMETHING NEW, DAMMIT!
Yes, I like the way he's played.
He and Coleman have potential to be wings on a 4th line that is not fun to play against.
