I would absolutely cancel my season tickets & stop going to games until they change it back.

In the meantime I'll just purchase a fake mustache and get my tickets last second before puck drops on Stubhub.

Well, it's the first business day since Friday night.

Let's see how busy their office is this morning from fan feedback.

I know some of these posts are in jest but for anyone seriously considering canceling their season tickets - it's not as easy as it sounds.

Firstly, any cancellation of an active season requires Eric's approval. So your rep can't just say "sure! here's your money back!" The contract you signed doesn't allow you to do that. Technically, you've made a commitment and there's no "allow cancellation for goal song change" exemption to that contract.

In short, they wouldn't ALLOW you to cancel your season tickets for this. You can, however, tell them you're not going to renew. Which, believe it or not, is probably more effective. The new owners can hide behind JVB for a season. But imagine if we start next year with LESS STH than this year?

I think it's certainly more of a threat than fighting the futile fight of canceling your tickets this year.

Also, an aside, I will never understand why people insist on governing others. On projecting their beliefs on others. If a guy pays 3k for season tickets and he wants to cancel them because he can't chant you suck - what's it to you? Who cares? He's probably just as big of a Devils fan as you are. Just because he enjoys something that you don't enjoy - even if it's the single factor that makes the game enjoyable - doesn't mean he's any of the things he's being called here.

For all the political nonsense spewed here you would think those spewing it would realize the irony in all of this.

Perhaps RG means this topic is nearing 1000 posts and soon to be closed? Surely we won't open another thread to discuss this debacle, right? :sarcasm:

I have the Fire & Ice App on my phone and read it on the train into work. The comments are still overwhelmingly about the goal song. Some people very clearly disregard the goal song as a side story unworthy of attention, but they're certainly not treating it as such.

For example: we have people going on for pages on pages reiterating how insignificant and unimportant the change is. Yet, they've been going on for pages and pages reiterating this. That, in itself, gives merit to the significance of the goal song - ironically.

This won't die down until the fans stop booing. We might not be allowed to talk about it here (if another thread doesn't open), but the fans will continue to boo and it will be talked about elsewhere.

yes nearing 1000. And apparently from the social media traffic the team/ops is well aware of the issue so we don't need to debate the issue in here so much as let it play out at the arena and through the media outlets where we can let them hear our opinions directly. ;)

(a somewhat hopeful plea not to have another thread about this)

Did the team ever respond on social media?

Cancelling season tickets because of a goal song Sounds absurd, but it is not entirely irrational

Answer the question, why would you pay the high cost of a ticket, food, etc to attend the game at the arena instead of watching from home, where you arguably see the game better and it is a whole lot cheaper

Part of the reason is because it's fun being in the crowd and participating at alive event. If it becomes less fun, then you may question if it is worth the money

it is 100% completely and unquestionably irrational.

And right there is the DIFFERENCE. Devils fans could easily cheer and then sit back down.....on their couches AT HOME while eating far cheaper foods and having plenty of beer available.

The point of going to the game is as sbresistor stated. The crowd participation fosters a FUN atmosphere that makes it worth paying out the nose for refreshments and such. Why go to a game when that fun atmosphere is missing? :dunno:

Is this essentially why we all do it? For the fun? I would be a lot more comfortable watching from home. I'd save thousands of dollars and have a bathroom just a few feet away. And when I come back, even if play isn't dead, no one is there to stop me from sitting in my seat.

I jumped aboard because of how much fun I had at the arena. The cheers, jeers, fans, and all of that great stuff. And the goal song was a big part of what got the arena rocking. Which is why my stance is - bring it back or bring something better that we can all get behind. Until you figure out the latter, bring it back. Especially for the Rangers game.

"This is My House" will not go over well 10/19.

people posted responses from email and twitter on here I believe talking about the goal song is being "shopped" in essence the next few games.

I'm not keeping up to be honest, I find the entire matter irritating enough without trying to parse this thread for valuable contributions.

I haven't reached irritated yet but I know I will 10/19. Nothing will be worse than hearing 17k fans boo, in unison, my favorite team scoring a goal with our rival's fans sitting a row in front of me.

I really do hope the Devils avoid the inevitably of that.

Again, my opinion is that if you are BOOING a GOAL SONG, then maybe you shouldn't have season tickets to start with.

I couldn't care less if they played the Barney theme after we scored a goal, quite honestly.

It's amazing then, that 25 or so other venues manage to have fans in the seats at all, without R&RP2...

Well then you have fun other ways. I think there's a line everyone crosses when they buy seasons. Something you experienced at the arena allows you to justify paying thousands of dollars for a lesser view, more expensive food, and all that jazz.

To some it's the fun atmosphere.

Would you feel better if people worded it differently? "I don't think I'll renew my seasons because I'm just not having as much fun as I used to?"

I think that's perfectly reasonable.

Other arenas have other traditions that I'm sure would drive fans insane in a similar fashion. Though I do admit that if Habs fans or Hawks fans didn't renew I doubt the franchises would care (fanbase). But try that in more volatile areas (pulling traditions, that is) and I think you'll get a similar reaction IF executed as poorly as the Devils did.

I continue to love how we deflect responsibility. It's the Devils fault if I/we boo.

Are you there to cheer the song, or the ****ing players busting their ***** out there?

Like ZBC said, who gives a **** what they play. Anyone who boos after (if) we score on the Rangers on 10/19 should really think twice.

my point is that your idea of "fun" relies on the 10 seconds a goal song plays than I don't think you should have season tickets to start with.

I'm not debating whether or not it's right or wrong. I personally haven't decided whether or not I will boo. Given the situation as a whole.

But I do believe that, inevitably, the majority of the fans WILL boo.

So yes, if the Devils do bear some responsibility (maybe not all) if this does happen. It's far more reasonable to expect the Devils to rectify the issue as opposed to uniting 17k people. The former probably takes an e-mail the latter takes Moses, at the very least.

So if you're getting e-mails, calls, tweets, and facebook posts with thousands of people frustrated. If you're hearing boos after your team scores. If you're letting it fester for 15 days without a public response.

You certainly do deserve the bulk of the responsibility come 10/19 where exasperated, drunk fans decide that THIS is the only way to be heard.

What kind of fun is appropriate? Come on.

There is no other chant in the arena aside from maybe (Zuuuuuuuuub and Mar-ty) that unites the fanbase. So it's perfectly reasonably that people associate a Devils Goal + Goal Horn + Chant + Atmosphere with fun.

I just don't think you're giving proper credence to the reality that when you're drinking with friends at a hockey game, chanting with 17k people (whatever it is your chanting) can very well be the most fun part of a game.

thats the difference between you and me then. I dont need to chant something or boo something or say "you suck" to have fun. I have fun watching my team play.
