Final Score = Maine Nordiques 3 - New Jersey Titans 2. Maine bottled up NJT for large stretches of the closing minutes. The Titans could not pull Christian Stoever (BGSU commit) until under 20 seconds left; that & penalties doomed their Game #3 chances. Total SOGs 40-26 in favor of the Nordiques, who now lead this first round series 2 games to 1 with Game #4 on Friday night in New Jersey.

Period 2 over in Amarillo, Mudbugs lead the Bulls 2-1. The Bulls tied the game @ 6:33 on a tally by Ryan Coughlin (RMU commit - unfortunately). The second Shreveport goal was scored by Garrett Steele, his 2nd of the game. SOGs thru 2 periods = 27-20 in favor of the visitors.

Back in Minot, the Minotauros tie their game vs. Aberdeen 1-1 on the first shift of the 3rd period. Goal to Logan Anderson. Tauros now pressing hard. ETA: Brief official timeout to deal with a goal light knocked loose. Hockey life. :cheer:

And Minot's Brett Roloson uses his speed out of his zone to beat a Wings D-man and sneaks a pretty goal (unassisted) between the left goal post & Aberdeen goalie Jake Sibell (Niagara) to give the home boys a 2-1 lead approaching the middle of the final regulation period.

Minot kills off a critical man disadvantage, but then Aberdeen scores an even strength goal to tie up the game at 2's. Goal to Will Arquiett (St.Lawrence). Under 5 minutes remaining.

End of regulation time in 1st round Game #3, Aberdeen 2 - Minot 2. Very entertaining game, so why not more?

Switching to Texas, time ticking down for Amarillo to catch up to Shreveport. And the Bulls are now going on the PK with just over 2 minutes left in the 3rd, down 2-1.

With 21 seconds left in regulation, Amarillo uses the extra attacker (making it 5-on-5) to knot the score at 2-2. Tying goal to Harrison Scott (Bentley U). And this game is going to another period for sudden death play, the second time in a row for these two teams.

Another intermission in Minot, still Wings 2 - Minotauros 2 after 4 periods. The Tauros had a very early opportunity in this first extra session but hit a crossbar with a fluttering puck. After that, it was back & forth with good goaltending at both ends. SOGs through the first OT = 65-41 in favor of Aberdeen.

Tauros goalie Keenan Rancier has now surpassed the team's all-time one-game saves record. Play in Minot continues, OT Period 2 @ 10:00.

Four more first round games tonight, while I'll be otherwise occupied with holiday barbecue enjoyment ...
  • Aberdeen Wings @ Minot Minotauros Game #4 - 7:05 PM CDT (Wings lead the series 2-1) ... Coming off a 2OT victory last night at home, could the Tauros have the confidence to upset the runaway League champs? :eek2:

It's solely Sun Journal, btw, JM, even though the historical reference to the Costello family no longer applies, as it's no longer solely in Lewiston now....

Three first round games on the slate for this Saturday,, including a late afternoon start in North TX.

Lone Star Brahmas @ Wichita Fall Warriors - 4:05 PM CDT (Warriors lead the series 2-0) ... First-year Wichita Falls are just one victory away from an upset over the South Division's #2 seed Brahmas. They've got two games at home to make it happen, though wrapping up the series tonight would give them more time to prep for Round 2 against the #1 seed Shreveport Mudbugs.

Maryland Black Bears @ Johnstown Tomahawks - 7:00 PM EDT (Series tied 2-2) ... First two teams to play a Game 5 for deciding who moves on. The Black Bears have been one of the surprises of these NAHL playoffs, but they missed their chance to knock off the #1 seed Tomahawks in Maryland on Friday night. Johnstown has the clear edge in this one.

Janesville Jets @ Kenai River Brown Bears - 7:05 PM CDT (Bears lead the series 2-1) ... The Jets breathed new life into their 1st round chances by spanking KR in Blaine, MN on Friday night. This is now a series where "home ice advantage" is just a trite saying.

And the Brown Bears join the other two first-time 2nd rounders with a "home ice" upset ...

Didn't take long to get back to even. Maine's Tristan Fasig jumped off the bench, receiving an outlet pass & putting the Nordiques on the board with a bang-bang breakaway past NJ goalie Tyriq Outen. Then less than a minute later, Maine's Caden Pattison tied it up 2-2. All this in the first 8:18. :hyper:
