Season series: Jeff Skinner had his first career hat trick in the Carolina Hurricanes' 5-2 win against the Nashville Predators on Dec. 5.

Big story: Carolina could be without captain Eric Staal, who left a 3-2 win against the New York Islanders on Saturday in the second period with a lower-body injury. Staal had five points (one goal) in the previous two games and has missed one game over the past three seasons.

"It's not easy when the big man goes down," Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal, Eric's younger brother, told the News & Observer. "It creates a big hole, but you've got to stick with it and do what you do."

If the 2nd line stays in tact from last night, Dwyer will be on that line with Jordan and Gerbe. Possibility Ruutu moves up to center top line, or skinner slides over. not too sure to be honest. kinda an odd situation. in over 700 games possible, Staal has only missed 14 games in his career, 2 of which were for his sisters wedding apparently. so yeah, we really arent used to having to replace him lol

How cool would it be to play these guys at Bristol Motor Speedway for an outdoor game? It is a shame we are not in the same division as these guys because it could work itself into a nice little rivalry.

No way NHL gods allow this. BMR seats 165,000 and if a bunch of hillbillys fill that place for a hockey game it would give The league a black eye when it comes to nontraditional markets.
