B) Weber and Subban are two of the best d-men in the league. A lot of people here say Weber is better. A lot say Subban is better.

He's a rock. He makes great plays. Guess what: He frequently gives the puck to Josi because it's the best play. Trust me, he will be excellent as your 1D.

Yep. Weber still have a few really good years left in him. While he isn't the best at carrying the puck, he is pretty good at passing. Who is MTL going to pair him with? He really does need a puckmover to get the best out of him. Weber's downfall is that his caphit will be bad in 4-5 years

Before the Subban, almost everyone in Montreal would've put Weber in their top-10, even top-5 if not top-3. Now we get him, and suddenly...he's 31, and clearly over the hill. Can't make a pass to save his life, and has the mobility of a rock. And did you see that game 7 ?!? What a disgrace.

I was over the trade an hour or two after it was announced. I wasn't even upset. I was just shocked MB pulled the trigger on it (loved that he had the balls to make one). But seeing that we got Weber in return, I was real quick to get excited. And still am.
Off the bat, everyone used his age, his final two games in last year's playoffs, and his advanced stats to tear down who the Habs got in return. It is the most annoying argument.
If at 31, Weber is supposedly declining, then Subban has three good years ahead of him before he starts to decline.
When Subban was left off of Team Canada, everyone was arguing how Jake Muzzin was on there and not PK. Not one soul in the world (Habs fan or not) argued how PK was left off the team and Weber made the cut. Now because Subban was traded for Weber, many Subannatics have argued that Team Canada is a country club full of the same group of guys choosing the same line-up over and over.
Personally, Subban can win another two or three Norris Trophies for all I care. If the Habs are in the Stanley Cup Finals or end up winning it, I'll be happy for PK, but I'll be elated for the Canadiens.
PK for Weber is a bad deal and I LOVE Weber but he is significantly older and even if he is better today the two t last long what another year? MAYBE 2?
PK is better than Weber in every facet of the game (YES defensively too). He used to be trash because it's hip to hate the Habs. Still hate the trade and I'll hate it forever. MB is gone within the next two years when Weber is unable to keep up and PK burns the league.

Im not saying i agree or disagree, but what backs up him beeing one of the best defensive defensemen in the nhl?
Weber is incredibly better than Faulk, he's just older than him. He's the kind of guy who will drag a team kicking and screaming into the playoffs by himself. Seriously it's not that bad a deal for you guys.

What would worry me if I was Montreal was the fact that Weber was very very average at best in Nashville's series against the Sharks. (and in a couple cases that's being rather generous) No doubt he's still an outstanding D-man, but there is at least one definite red flag after the playoffs this year.
Hopefully its buying low. Time will tell. Certainly before this season Weber was widely regarded as the better Dman.

That will also coincide with the end of our "contention" window - if we even have one - when Price is too old, Pacioretty is either gone via UFA or making too much.
And at the time, Weber's actual salary will start to be lower and lower to the point where he'll be enticing to teams on a budget who don't care about the cap anyway. And sometimes past 36, if Weber is truly so washed up he's not a NHL player, he'll likely want to retire instead of dragging it out for peanuts. At which point Nashville is on the hook for the recapture so we don't care !
If true, it hastens MB's departure which is a good thing because he would have wasted this group's chance for the next 2 years anyway. Win-win !

It would have been less awful if Bergevin had the brains to push for Weber plus the Predators first round pick because of the age difference. For those that say Weber makes us a better team, I say he damn well better make us a better team because if not, it aint gonna be purddy.

Subban+3rd 2017 (or one of Washington's 2nd)
Except we lost our best skater so, no, it isn't a win-win. It's a loss any way you slice it.

You didn't see Subban in his last 3 playoffs series, have you? Hedman, Karlsson and McDonagh all made him look quite bad for a #1 D. Lost every single one of these battles quite handily.
